Titans at Steelers NFL Odds & Week 11 Prediction for TNF

Written by on November 14, 2017

The Pittsburgh Steelers barely escaped disaster in Indianapolis last week, needing a wild comeback to win, 20-17, on a Chris Bowell field goal as time expired — to give the Steelers the only lead they would hold in the entire game. The Tennessee Titans had to mount a big comeback at home to take down the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-20. The Steelers, at 7-2, and the Titans, at 6-3, are both strong players in the AFC playoff conversation. However, they have issues to work out before we can take them seriously as a Super Bowl contender — and we’ll see which team still has more work to do after Thursday night. Consider our NFL odds advice on this prime-time matchup.

Why should you bet on the Titans?

Now that Marcus Mariota’s hamstring seems to have healed, his mobility makes him much more of a threat at quarterback. However, he looked like he was in the doldrums for much of the Titans’ win over the Bengals, until Cincinnati scored a 70-yard touchdown pass from Andy Dalton to A.J. Green with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Mariota led the Titans on a 12-play, 73-yard drive, finding DeMarco Murray for a 7-yard score with 36 seconds remaining. The Titans will need to play poised offense for more than just the last five minutes to win in Pittsburgh, though. Tennessee has mounted their first four-game winning streak in eight years. Their defense hasn’t gotten a lot of publicity, but they have quietly put up big numbers. They rank sixth in the NFL in rushing yards permitted per game (91.9) and they have a decent secondary as well. If they can get their pass rush after Ben Roethlisberger, they have a chance to force some three-and-outs and keep their own offense on the field.

Why should you put your money on the Steelers?

We thought that the Baltimore Ravens would win the AFC North this year, but so far it looks like the Steelers are in the driver’s seat so far. As far as the Tennessee game goes, it’s a good thing for Pittsburgh that the game is in the Steel City, as they tend to play down to their competition away from Heinz Field — especially in that overtime loss in Chicago. Roethlisberger led a couple of key drives late to turn a 17-3 deficit into a 20-17 win — but if the Steelers come out sleepy on offense again, the Titans may post a lead that the Steelers cannot erase. Are the Steelers a safe bet in NFL Week 11? The Steelers have an elite defense this year, ranked #2 in the NFL in points permitted per game (16.4), passing yards permitted per game (181.8) and total yards permitted per game (284.4). That defense came up huge late against the Colts as the Steelers picked off Jacoby Brissett, giving them time to mount that last drive that would lead to their win. If you like the Steelers, you like that defense to shut down Marcus Mariota and DeMarco Murray, who do represent a solid threat in both the running and passing games.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Marcus Mariota has had a tough year this season, and it’s good to see his hamstring back and his mobility returned to 100%. However, the Steelers look like a real contender this season, particularly when they are playing at home. I see the Steelers quashing the Titans’ offense and winning in a close game, with a final score of Pittsburgh 23, Tennessee 20 — meaning that I like the Titans to cover. This could definitely be a preview of a matchup from the wild card weekend of the AFC playoffs at the end of this season.
