Bengals vs Chiefs NFL Week 7 Odds & Prediction

Written by on October 19, 2018

The Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs both enter this week’s games coming off a disappointing loss last Sunday. The Chiefs went to New England and fell in a hole early before coming back to take a late lead, only to see Tom Brady work his magic once again and lead the Patriots to a 43-40 win. The Bengals hosted Pittsburgh last week with a chance to create some separation in the AFC North but ended up losing late, 28-21 and now find themselves tied atop the division with Baltimore. The Chiefs play on Sunday night for the second week in a row and look to get back to their winning ways with Patrick Mahomes running a terrific offense, while the Bengals are hoping that Andy Dalton can shake a lengthy history of failing to perform in prime time, especially on the road. Check out our NFL betting preview of this tilt for Bengals vs Chiefs.

Bengals vs Chiefs NFL Week 7 Odds & Prediction

Why should you bet on the Bengals?

Andy Dalton has 1,674 passing yards through six games and has put up a 14:7 TD:INT ratio. A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd have been two of his favorite targets, and the passing game has had to do more than its share this season as the running game is only averaging 89 yards per contest. Joe Mixon only has picked up 336 yards and a pair of scores in the first six games of the season, and the Bengals will need more production than that from their running game if they want to contend. On the defensive side of the ball, the Bengals permit 26 points and 409 yards per game. Nick Vigil has posted 51 tackles and Geno Atkins has delivered six sacks, but in their two losses, the Bengals have not been able to get their opponents’ offenses off the field. Even so, Cincinnati has covered the spread in eight of their last nine games against AFC opponents and in five of their last seven games away from Paul Brown Stadium. However, when the spread is five points or greater, the Bengals have only covered as the underdog in three of their last nine.

Why should you put your money on the Chiefs?

Kansas City’s offense has gotten an immense jolt from the work of Mahomes, who has 18 touchdowns against just four interceptions, completing 63 percent of his passes. Tyreek Hill gives him a speedy target down the field, and Travis Kelce gives him a solid steady target in the middle of the field, a crafty tight end who knows how to find the soft spot in a zone. Tailback Kareem Hunt has picked up 456 yards and four scores so far this season, giving the Chiefs some offensive balance. On defense, the Chiefs have been very giving, permitting 29 points and 468 yards per game. As we saw in the loss to New England, Kansas City tries to win by outscoring the opposition instead of playing tough defense on drives, and that trend could come back to bite them in crucial games, particularly once they reach the postseason. Kansas City has covered the spread in five of their last six games at Arrowhead Stadium and in all of their last five games against AFC opposition. If you like the Chiefs, then you think Mahomes will be able to work his magic once again against Cincinnati while the Bengals will not be able to keep pace.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction for Bengals vs Chiefs

Cincinnati’s running game got shut down by the Steelers a week ago, and while the Chiefs don’t quite have the stout personnel up front that PIttsburgh does, they should be able to follow the blueprint to slow Mixon down. Dalton has a way of turning into a real pumpkin once the calendar reaches the end of October. I’m predicting a final score of Kansas City 31, Cincinnati 20.
