2019 Gold Cup Quarterfinals Odds, Preview & Picks

Group play has come to a close at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, with the top two teams coming out of the four groups to meet in the quarterfinals. Mexico won Group A, sweeping all three games, while Canada emerged as the runner-up, finishing with six points. In Group B, Haiti emerged as a bit of a surprise winner, sweeping all three games, including a win over runner-up Costa Rica in the opener. Jamaica came out of a tightly fought group c to win with just five points (a win and two draws), while Curacao is the runner-up with four points and a goal differential of 0, which beat out El Salvador (-3). In Group D, the United States swept group play, finishing with a 1-0 win over runner-up Panama. The United States finished with a +11 goal differential, one ahead of Mexico, but a group that included Panama, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago was not rife with challenges. We have the quarterfinals schedule as well as soccer betting thoughts on each match.

2019 Gold Cup Quarterfinals Odds, Preview & Picks

Saturday, June 29

  • Haiti vs Canada (Houston) (7:00 pm ET, ESPN)
  • Gold Cup Odds: Haiti +270 / Canada -103 / Draw +230
Haiti emerged against Costa Rica with a 2-1 win in their group play finale despite possessing for just 29 percent of the game and conceding an early goal to give the Ticos a 1-0 lead. Djimy Alexis scored the winning goal for Haiti, which has scored six goals in three matches while conceding just two. Canada drilled Cuba, 7-0, in their group play finale, possessing 64 percent of the game and putting 14 shots on target and completing 88 percent of their passes. Jonathon David and Lucas Cavallini each had a hat trick. The Canadians now have 12 goals on the tournament. It is hard to see Haiti advancing against a tough Canadian attack. Final Score Prediction: Canada 3 – Haiti 1
  • Mexico vs Costa Rica (Houston) (9:30 pm ET, ESPN)
  • Gold Cup Odds: Mexico -189 / Costa Rica +650 / Draw +260
Mexico struggled against Martinique, 3-2, in their group play finale, although they were resting a number of key players. Raul Jimenez did score his third goal of the tournament, as El Tri possessed for 67 percent of the match and put ten shots on target. Mexico has scored 13 goals in the tournament, conceding just three. Their talent should come through as the starters return in the quarterfinal round. Costa Rica lost in an upset to Haiti in their group play finale despite possessing 71 percent of the match. The Ticos have only managed one clean sheet in this tournament, so they need more consistent play on their back line if they want to beat Mexico. Final Score Prediction: Mexico 3 – Costa Rica 1

Sunday, June 30

  • Jamaica vs Panama (Philadelphia) (5:30 pm ET, ESPN)
Panama finished as the runner-up in their group after falling to a United States team that started 11 reserves. Even against that second group, Panama only possessed for 37 percent of the game and put just one shot on goal. Panama did beat Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, scoring six goals in those two wins, but Jamaica’s talent is higher than that of those two squads. Jamaica has a porous defense, conceding three goals in three matches in the softest group in the tournament. When Curacao and Honduras can score, that shows issues on the back line, and Panama can make opponents pay with their attack. Final Score Prediction: Panama 2 – Jamaica 0
  • USA vs Curacao (Philadelphia) (8:00 pm ET, ESPN)
Curacao pulled out a 1-1 draw against Jamaica in their group play finale, possessing for 58 percent of the game — without that point, they would not have advanced. It took a goal from Jurien Gaari in injury time for Curacao to get that point. The United States possessed for 62 percent of the game against Panama, getting a goal from Jozy Altidore via a bicycle kick in the 66th minute. The USA has 11 goals in three matches and has posted three clean sheets. Despite Curacao’s courageous play against Jamaica, it’s hard to see them advancing against a vastly superior USA team in terms of talent. Final Score Prediction: United States 2 – Curacao 0
