UFC Fight Night 140 Buenos Aires Betting Preview

On Saturday night, UFC Fight Night moves down to Buenos Aires, Argentina at Estadio Mary Teran de Weiss. This will be the first UFC event ever held in Argentina, and the headliner will be a welterweight bout between Neil Magny and Santiago Ponzinibbio. Veronica Macedo and Maryna Moroz were supposed to appear in a women’s flyweight bout, but both fighters had to withdraw due to injuries. The co-main event will be a 145-pound fight between Darren Elkins and Ricardo Lamas. The main card will start at 10:00pm Eastern time. Neil Magny (21-6) vs Santiago Ponzinibbio (26-3)  pits a fairly heavy favorite in Ponzinibbio (-320), who would be the first Argentinian star to emerge in UFC to this point. His early career in UFC was not promising, but after a defeat to Lorenz Larkin back in 2015, he started making improvements, and he got a main event as a result against Gunnar Nelson in 2017. He submitted Nelson quickly and then took down Mike Perry in his next fight. He was supposed to fight in the main event at UFC Fight Night Chile, but injury forced him to withdraw, and now he faces Magny. Magny was almost headed out of UFC after a dreadful campaign on “The Ultimate Fighter” and dropping two straight bouts. However, at that time (2014), UFC needed fighters as they were trying to grow, so he got one more shot at UFC 169, where he started a seven-fight winning streak. He has fought off the other elites in the classification. Magny (+280) is not expected to win, but if he could, he would make a title bout case for himself. However, despite Magny’s long reach, his movements are largely predictable. Ponzinibbio is the better wrestler, as Magny’s defense has betrayed him on multiple occasions. Ponzinibbio also has the better wins on his resume. UFC FIght Night Prediction: Ponzinibbio wins via stoppage The co-main event, Ricardo Lamas (18-7) vs Darren Elkins (24-6), pits a pair of featherweight mainstays who want to remain contenders in the division. Lamas (-240) has shown some signs of decline since his title bout against Jose Aldo. He has hung on to the edge of contention but has never beaten any of the top featherweights. He is solid both on the ground and in striking, but he has taken some bad losses lately, including an upset to Josh Emmett, who delivered a first-round knockout, and another upset to the young Mirsad Bektic. Lamas needs this win in order to have a shot at contending again. Elkins (+200) takes a ton of pounding in his fights, leading with his chin and ending up on the ground and taking some grinding there. However, he never stops fighting, and when he beat Bektic, he came out in the third round after taking all sorts of pain in the first two rounds and took advantage of Bektic’s drained cardio and delivered a knockout in that final round. Elkins is known for taking more athletic fighters and hanging losses on them. He had a long winning streak end in July, losing to Alexander Vokanovski by decision.
