College Football Odds To Make Playoffs this 2023/24 Season

Five unbeaten teams remain in college football, but by the time the College Football Playoff selection committee meets, that number has to drop by at least one. Why? Because both Michigan and Ohio State have perfect 9-0 records, and they face off in the regular season as co-dwellers in the Big Ten East. The other three unbeatens (Georgia, Florida State, and Washington) all have open paths to perfect 13-0 seasons. Georgia, who will likely face Alabama in the SEC Championship, has the toughest path to 13-0 of these three, followed by Washington, who will likely see Oregon a second time in the Pac-12 Championship. Florida State doesn’t really have a competitive peer in the ACC right now – but strange things have happened in conference title games. Who will advance to the NCAAF Playoffs? We have some ideas for you to consider as you plan your college football betting for the end of the year.

2023 NCAAF Playoffs Projections and Analysis of the Best Teams

Georgia Bulldogs

Would clinch the SEC East with a win over Ole Miss this weekend – or if Missouri beats Tennessee. Georgia has won 10 of 11 over the Rebels; the only Ole Miss win in that stretch came in 2016, the last time the teams met, down in Oxford. Because of the vagaries of the cross-divisional SEC schedule, the Rebels and Bulldogs have only met twice since 2012. They do face a tough foe in Ole Miss as Quinshon Judkins ranks fifth in the SEC with 88.1 rushing yards per game, and quarterback Jaxson Dart has run for 334 yards and seven touchdowns. The Bulldogs allowed Missouri tailback Cody Schrader to scamper for 112 yards and a touchdown on 22 attempts. Junior linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson fractured his left forearm against Missouri last week, which takes away a crucial player in the middle of the defense.

Florida State Seminoles

Hosts Miami this week in their annual rivalry showdown. The Hurricanes have demurred about their starting quarterback so far, but the fact that Tyler Van Dyke has thrown 10 picks in his last four games and has no touchdown passes and five picks since he missed the Clemson game, the signal-caller could be freshman Emory Williams, who led the Hurricanes by Clemson. Florida State was missing its top four wide receivers against Pitt, and while the Seminoles still won, their high-flying pass offense was more pedestrian. The play along the lines will be crucial in this matchup, and the Seminoles have a vulnerable run defense.

Washington Huskies

Hosts a Utah team that responded to a loss to Oregon by pounding Arizona State by 52. The Utes move the ball at a workmanlike pace, which makes coming from behind difficult. While the Utes’ defense is still ironclad, they still have a backup quarterback running things. If Washington uses a balanced offense and can get stops, they should prevail, but they did just give up 42 points in their win over USC.

Michigan Wolverines

Heads to one-loss Penn State this week. The Nittany Lions have won seven in a row in Beaver Stadium and have the best defense in the nation against the run. Last year, Michigan was able to romp against that same defense, running for 418 yards and four scores behind Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum. The Nittany Lions have a much deeper D-line this year, and Amin Vanover and Chop Robinson could be back from injury. Michigan also has the intangible of playing under the shadow of their sign-stealing scandal.

Alabama Crimson Tide

What about Alabama? Remember, they only have one loss – at home against Texas. They beat top-20 Ole Miss, LSU and Tennessee by 14 points apiece – all at home. They finish at Kentucky, at home against Chattanooga, and at Auburn. All of these games are winnable with a confident Jalen Milroe at quarterback. If the Tide get to the SEC Championship and beat Georgia, do you really think the CFP committee will keep them out? When the Tide lost to Texas, their quarterback situation was still in flux, but Milroe has nailed that position down now.
