The biggest move that the Tigers (52-55) made was to send pitcher David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays. This was a clear indication that management believes this season to be a total wash. Despite the fact that it has been a subpar season, the Tigers find themselves just 4 games out of the Wild Card spot. That said, there are 4 teams ahead of them who are closer yet, which means that a lot would need to go their way in order for them to get in. This is a team that has struggled with consistency all season long, which suggests they don’t really have it in them to make a run at the postseason in the final few weeks. Daniel Norris (2-1, 3.23 ERA) came over from Toronto in the Price trade and looked very sharp in his first start with the Tigers. He will be on the mound again on Friday. If things appear bleak in Detroit, just imagine how bad they are in Boston. The Red Sox (48-60) are in serious danger of landing at the bottom of the AL East for a second straight season, which is not something that is going to sit well with a city that has become accustomed to winning championships. It just makes you wonder if they believe their current line-up to be a whole lot more valuable than it really is. Boston has only won 2 of the last 10 games with Kelly as the starter.
