2019 Belmont Stakes Prop Bets

One of the fun parts of horse betting has to do with the prop bets — the side bets that take a slightly different look at the action. You will not see as many wacky prop bets at the Belmont Stakes as you would at the Super Bowl, where you can put money down on anything from the coin flip to the amount of time it will take the national anthem performer to complete “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Even so, there are a number of prop bets that you can use to add to your winnings, should they pay off, and they will make the race even more interesting to watch. Take a look at some of the other wagers that you can place on Saturday’s action.

Tax

Tax is an interesting pick for the top two or three. We wrote about him in an earlier article about Belmont Stakes dark horses, and he is a horse that likes to stalk the pace. He could not break out of the pack at the Kentucky Derby, which led to an unusually low finish for him. He has the pedigree from sires who had all kinds of stamina. It’s going to be all about post position and early maneuvering for him; if he can get just a length or two off the lead, he could close late and win — making a top-three pick for him sensible.

Sir Winston

Sir Winston is a horse known for closing fast in the waning yards of the race. Closers do not tend to do as well at Belmont Park because of the 1 ½-mile course and that extremely long stretch to end the race. Sir Winston did close nicely at the Peter Pan Stakes, and he could close into the top three or four on Saturday, making him an intriguing trifecta or superfecta pick.

Intrepid Heart

Intrepid Heart came in third at the Peter Pan Stakes despite entering the race as the top favorite. His time at Peter Pan was his best to date, showing improvement despite not getting the results that the bettors were expecting. Can he improve his pace? If so, he could leapfrog the favorites and win the whole thing — which makes an exacta, trifecta or superfecta box pick an interesting one with him.
