The Western Conference in the MLS was about as tightly contested as it gets this season, with playoff spots and rankings going down to the wire. The regular season is now over, which means it’s time for the playoffs to begin. Sporting KC are just a couple of seasons removed from being an MLS champion, but this is a very different team from the one that won it all. They are missing a striker with a killer instinct, and do not have a player in the top 10 in scoring this year. Dom Dwyer led the way with 12 regular season goals, but it is Benny Feilhaber who pulls the strings for this group. He was benched for the first half of the final game of the season, and KC looked so much more incisive once ha came on in the second half. sporting-kc-soccer The one thing that you want to carry with you when heading into the playoffs is momentum, and the Portland Timbers certainly have that in spades at the moment. They won their final 3 games, and for a while on Sunday looked as though they might grab that second seed in the west. It was Vancouver who eventually landed that spot but that took nothing away from the 4-1 beating that Portland put on Colorado. That came just one week after they hammered the LA Galaxy 5-2 on the road, and both of those results should serve as a warning to any team having to face the Timbers. The biggest advantage that Portland may have in their arsenal is their home crowd, which is arguably the best in the MLS. So, What Should You Bet On?

Despite all the goals we have seen from Portland in the last couple of weeks, this is a fixture that is generally lacking in goals. The last 4 meetings between these two have yielded just 2 goals in total, so we may not see a lot of fireworks here. I like Portland to get the win in front of their home fans, although the UNDER looks like the bet to go with here.
