When you look at the line-up of an NHL team, you start to imagine how they are going to be successful. Some teams have a great goaltending tandem, while others are blessed with great defensive talent. In the case of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was believed that they would be all about the offense, but that is not how things have played out. The Penguins will invite in the Colorado Avalanche for a Thursday night tilt.

NHL Lines and Game Preview: Avalanche vs Penguins

Date: Thursday, November 19th, 2015 Time: 7:00PM Venue: Consol Energy Centre Opening Odds: Pittsburgh -174 Very few people would have put money on the Penguins (11-7-0) having one of the best defenses in the league this season, but with a 2.2 goals against per game average, that’s exactly what they are. The smart money would have gone on this team being among the top scorers in the league, but their 2.2 goals per game average has them down near the bottom. It may not be pretty to watch, but the Penguins have used that defense to turn things around after a truly dreadful start to the season. There is still work to be done, though, as Pittsburgh has already taken 3 losses in the month of November, which is not something they can afford to do in a very tight Metropolitan Division race. Pittsburgh closed out their schedule last week with back to back losses, but came up with a very good performance over the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, skating to a 4-3 win where Evegni Malkin was the star with 2 G and 2A on the night. The Colorado Avalanche (7-10-1) put together an astonishing performance last week, winning all 3 of their games and scoring 17 goals in the process. The highlight in that trio of wins was a 6-1 dismantling of the Montreal Canadiens that no-one saw coming. There was a sense that the Avs might be on the brink of turning their season around, but they started this week with a truly awful performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs, going down 5-1 on the road. They have 3 more games to come before this current 7-game road swing is complete, and they will have to play a whole lot better if they hope to get anything out of their visits to Pittsburgh, Washington, and Winnipeg. The Central Division is totally unforgiving, and the Avalanche could be out of the playoff picture pretty quickly if they don’t turn things around. colorado-avalanche

Avalanche vs Penguins Betting Prediction

These two teams split their season series last year, and it was the home team that got the win each time. I like that trend to continue in this one, with the Penguins getting the win in a close one. I also like this game to be UNDER 5.5 goals.
