The scary part of all of this is that the Panthers are starting to look stronger as the season progresses. No player epitomizes that more than QB Cam Newton. During the first 7 weeks of the season, Newton threw 11 TD passes and 8 INT, but in the last three weeks he has delivered 9 TD’s and just 1 INT. This is a team that is growing in confidence with each passing week, and you don’t get the sense that the short week and playing on a big national stage is going to in any way affect that confidence. As good as Newton has been, the Panthers are a team that are getting the job done on the ground for the most part. They are averaging 139.9 yards per game rushing, and are racking up close to 30 PPG, both of which puts the top 5 in the league. The defense is giving up just 19.1 PPG, which is also top 5. This is a well-balanced team that looks very, very dangerous right now. The Dallas Cowboys (3-7) look like a total mess, as their frustrations on the field are spilling over to the locker room and beyond. Dez Bryant recently had a well-documented locker room explosion in front of the assembled media, and the whole Greg Hardy experiment is turning into a bit of a PR nightmare. The Cowboys started the season well enough with Tony Romo at the helm, but when he went down in Week 2 with a major injury, the wheels came right off. Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel both struggled at the QB position, and neither one of them was able to orchestrate a single win through 7 weeks of play. The good news is that Romo returned on the weekend, and that the Cowboys responded with a good win over the Miami Dolphins. This week looks like being a much tougher task for a Cowboys team that is still conceivably in the NFC East division picture.
