2019 College Football Week 10 Odds, Overview & Top Picks

For a couple of days, SMU was the only 8-0 team in the nation, as they held off Houston on the road last Thursday night for a 34-31 win. Then came wins for Minnesota, Ohio State and Alabama on Saturday, and they joined the Mustangs at that rarefied record. The biggest disappointment on Saturday, once again, came from Wisconsin, who followed up a loss to Illinois with an embarrassment at the hands of Ohio State, as tailback Jonathan Taylor played himself out of the Heisman Trophy conversation, with his second straight subpar game, and then the Badgers’ defense got absolutely rolled by Ohio State this week. The Oklahoma Sooners also collapsed this week, giving up 48 points and 213 rushing yards to the Kansas State Wildcats in a shocking loss. Texas and Notre Dame also lost in surprising fashion, leading to a major shakeup in this week’s poll. Will college football make up part of your sports betting this week? #6 Florida (+6.5) vs #8 Georgia (in Jacksonville)

This game face off in the “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party,” a nickname that dates all the way back to the 1950s, at a neutral site in Jacksonville, Florida. Both teams have one loss in SEC play this year, but the loss that Florida has (at LSU) is a lot more forgivable than that home loss that Georgia took against South Carolina. Both teams come in off their bye week, so focus and injuries should not be as much of an issue. Given that Florida has looked better overall — and is ranked higher — this is an interesting line. #7 Oregon (-7) at USC

A matchup that gives us a Ducks team that must win out if they want to get consideration for a slot in the College Football Playoff, while the USC must win out if they want to have any shot at a Pac-12 South title. USC has already beaten Utah this year in what was a major upset, but I’m not sure they can do the same thing to the Ducks. Oregon to win and cover.

#9 Utah (-3) at Washington

It includes a Utes team that has not lost since falling to USC. This is a rematch of the Pac-12 Championship from a year ago and once again features two of the best defenses west of the Rocky Mountains. Utah has their starting quarterback, Tyler Huntley, this time, but can he win on the road against Jacob Eason’s Washington offense? I like the Utes here, as they have had their off game for the season. Utah to win and cover.

#15 SMU (+3) at #24 Memphis

The meeting features two teams that both would have lost to unranked Tulsa if Tulsa had a field goal kicker who could make easy kicks. ESPN’s College Game Day will be in Memphis all day ahead of this prime-time game set for broadcast on ABC. SMU keeps facing more and more mounting pressure each week in their best season since 1982, and this is their biggest test, at least according to the FPI rankings. However, SMU quarterback Shane Buechele and the Mustang offense (which may have to play without Reggie Roberson Jr at wideout) have responded most resoundingly to tests like this. SMU to cover.

West Virginia (+18) at #12 Baylor

A game that features the surprise leaders of the Big 12 standings in Baylor. West Virginia has not responded well after the departure of longtime coach Dana Holgorsen, as the Mountaineers now play neither offense nor defense all that well. Can Baylor really win by 18? If you saw how they poured on the points late at Oklahoma State, you wouldn’t down the Bears. Baylor to win and cover.

#18 Cincinnati (-20.5) at East Carolina

It should be a laugher for the Bearcats. With that said, double-digit favorites have fallen three weeks in a row — but the Bearcats have shown consistency, particularly in AAC play, and should roll over a subpar Pirates team. Cincinnati to win and cover.
