Both college and pro football entered the 2020 regular season with virtually no in-person offseason work, and what that has meant is that offenses are going wild, while defenses are struggling. In the college game, Clemson and Georgia have figured out defense, but some of the other powers, such as Alabama and LSU, are giving up points in droves, and we’re also seeing the same trends in the lower ranks of the FBS programs. College football point totals are usually higher than their NFL counterparts anyway, because of the pass-friendly college offenses facing defenses that have less speed than the pro defenses.
Going into Week 7, let’s take a look at some of the best College Football betting picks on the over/under prop.
NCAA News: O/U Picks for Week 7
BYU at Houston
BYU has run out to a 4-0 start, although their opponents have not been particularly competitive. They eked out a 27-20 win over Texas-San Antonio last weekend, a sign that their stay in the top 25 may not be long-lived. Quarterback Zach Wilson has put up a ton of offense, with 1,241 passing yards and 8 touchdowns through the air through four games, along with six rushing touchdowns.
Houston has played just once this year, with four different season openers canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks for their opponents. They beat Tulane, 49-31, with 476 yards of offense — but they turned the ball over five times in coach Dana Holgorsen’s debut. Quarterback Clayton Tune threw for 311 yards but had two picks and fumbled the ball on a sack. The ball security will need to be better. Given the defensive issues that both teams have shown, I’m going to take the over.

Kentucky at Tennessee
Kentucky has a 1-2 record, but bad officiating cost them a chance at beating Auburn (along with some mistakes of their own), and a missed extra point in overtime and a celebration penalty sent them to a loss to Ole Miss. They shellacked Mississippi State last week, 24-2, to get their first win. The Wildcat defense is ironclad as it not only permitted zero points but generated its own touchdown and grabbed six turnovers. However, the Kentucky offense only gained 157 yards, with 84 yards on the ground.
Tennessee had won eight games in a row until they met Georgia last week. The Volunteers were up by four at halftime but ended up losing, 44-21, as Georgia upped their play after the intermission, and Tennessee could not respond. The Georgia defense smothered Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, leading to three turnovers. It’s hard to see either team generating a ton of offense here, but 45 ½ points? That seems a tad low, given how things tend to break open in the second half. I’m going to take the over.

UCF at Memphis
Two of the nation’s best Group of Five programs square off at the Liberty Bowl. UCF beat Georgia Tech and East Carolina but then lost to Tulsa. UCF scores points in bunches, but they have also committed 45 penalties, the most of any FBS program.
Memphis has played two games so far, thanks to a month long hiatus due to the coronavirus. They opened on September 5 by beating Arkansas State, 37-24, and they didn’t play again until October 3. They fell behind SMU, 24-3, before coming back to tie the game at 27. A late strip-sack gave SMU a chance at a game-winning field goal. These teams should both be in the running for the AAC Championship, even with the early losses, and they both prioritize offense over defense. Even with that huge total, I’m going to take the over.
