Top College Football Week 10 ATS Picks

San Jose at Boise State, Friday November 4, 10:15 PM ET

NCAA Football ATS Pick: Boise State (-29)

Can Boise State find a way to recover from their shock 30-28 loss at Wyoming last week with a big win? Historically-speaking and going by the way they’ve been playing this season, we definitely think it’ very possible. San Jose is a weak offensive team (ranking 123rd nationally with 17.8 points per game against FBS opponents) and quarterback Kenny Potter has struggled when it comes to facing top opponents. Making matters worse, San Jose’s defense isn’t any better. The run defense is particularly very weak, giving up 5.6 yards per carry to opponents. On the opposite side, the Broncos have owned this series, going 12-0 SU and 8-4 ATS in their all-time 12 meetings against San Jose, winning the games by an average margin of 29 points. What’s more, Boise State is the proud owner of a dynamic running back in Jeremy McNichols, who leads the team with 18 total TDs. Meanwhile, Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien leads an efficient passing game that impressively averages 321.5 yards per game. Throw in the additional strength that comes with the Broncos’ solid scoring defense that is allowing just 21.6 PPG (tied for #27 in the country), we fancy the Broncos bouncing back with a strong home win over SJSU, allowing them to take both the SU and ATS this weekend.

Wisconsin at Northwestern, Saturday, November 05, 12:00 PM ET

NCAA Football ATS Pick: Northwestern (+7)

The Badgers have not won a game at Northwestern since 1999, and are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games at Ryan Field while the Wildcats are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against conference opponents. More worryingly, QB Clayton Thorson and RB Justin Johnson seem to have found their offensive groove and are playing with a lot of confidence while Wisconsin’s offense is still in shambles, often relying on the defense to bail the team out. In a highly likely scenario of a cagey and tight encounter, as is depicted by the low game total in this contest (OVER/UNDER 41), it’s always smart to take the underdog on the points. And with the aforementioned history also factored into this game, we are inclined to lean on Northwestern for the ATS value.

Louisville at Boston College, Saturday, November 05, 12:00 PM ET

NCAA Football ATS Pick: Boston College (+25)

Since losing to the Clemson Tigers, which is their lone loss to date, the Cardinals have stayed solid on the winning column. But as a point of concern, Louisville has been rather iffy in the ATS lines. This was clearly evident last week when the Cards needed Lamar Jackson to throw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Smith with only 13 seconds left on the clock to record a 32-25 come-from- behind win at Virginia and failing to cover as 34-point favs. The vulnerability in this defense has seen Louisville struggle in paying bettors in the ATS lines (1-3 in ATS their last 4 overall games), something that could open the door for Boston College to take the points this weekend. Despite being placed as substantial underdogs to UofL, the Eagles have proven capable of holding their own quite well, including losing by just 8 points to Syracuse before upsetting NC State on the road last week a 16-point underdogs. Add that to the friendly atmosphere at the Alumni Stadium, it wouldn’t be far-fetched for the Eagles to beat the number against Louisville this week.

Syracuse at Clemson, Saturday, November 05, 3:30 PM ET

NCAA Football ATS Pick: Syracuse (+26.5)

So, the Tigers have aced all their tests this season and are enjoying a #2 ranking in the first edition of the playoff national polls. And to their credit, the Tigers have made all the championship-worthy plays this season—recording a 42-36 win over Louisville and then taking care of business with a 37-34 win over Florida State last week. But here’s the thing; the Tigers have committed plenty of errors on the season, with QB Deshaun Watson throwing a number of costly picks and the defense also falling asleep rather too often. And even if you take away the understandable mistake against Auburn, Louisville and FSU; the Tigers were far dominant in their wins over low-tier opponents such as Troy and NC State. That puts them in a dangerous spot against the Orange, who’ve been competitive in all their big games this season, including a 28-point output in the loss to then #3 Louisville, a 33-point output in the loss against Notre Dame and 10-point home win over then #`7 Virginia Tech. And in case you don’t know, the lethal QB-WR combination of Eric Dungey (224-of- 346 passes for 2631 passing yards and 15 TDs) and Amba Etta-Tawo (66 receptions, 1074 receiving yards and 7 TDs) is one of the best in the ACC, which should guarantee some decent production against Clemson’s permeable defense. And above everything, the Orange have beaten the number in each of the last two matchups against Clemson in two 10-point losses (16-6, 37-27). With all that in mind, we definitely like Syracuse to take the points this weekend.
