Cincinnati at NY Giants Week 10 Betting Pick & Prediction

Written by on November 14, 2016

The Cincinnati Bengals (3-4- 1) have been a mixed bag of fortunes this season, losing some really bad games this season, but they’ve also delivered some solid outings in a number of top matchups and the Oddsmakers– on the latter account–are pegging them as slight NFL betting favorites when they visit the Big Apple to take on the New York Giants (5-3) in a Monday Night Football game. Interestingly, though, it is the Giants who bring with them a solid history vs. Cincy and an on-going winning momentum into this clash, having won their last three straight outings. Can the Bengals live up to the huge NFL odds expectations, or will the stepping Giants walk over the visitors? Join us as we preview this Week 10 Monday Night Football fixture.

Why Bet on the Bengals?

Prior to their bye in Week 9, the Bengals easily cruised past the Browns on October 23rd to end their two-game slide, and then followed it with a thrilling 27-27 tie against the Redskins. There is really no momentum from those two games, but playing after a bye should be a big shot in the arm for the Bengals, who have won and covered the spread in three of their last four games following a bye (3-1 SU/ATS). The Bengals could also get some much-needed help from a number of injury concerns in the New York roster, including starting OG Justin Pugh (out with a knee injury) and WR Victor Cruz (listed as questionable with an ankle injury). More than that, the Giants have one of the poorest run offenses in the nation, averaging a measly 68.25; something that shouldn’t trouble Cincy’s run defense that has the potential to take its chances against such a subpar unit. Even so, the Bengal passing defense has been troubled all season and the Andy Dalton-led Cincy offense has been sputtering with inconsistent performances. A strong and sustained performance must therefore be forthcoming from Dalton, star receiver A.J. Green, and the talented RB tandem of Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard in the offense, along with a better show from Cincy’s D (more so in the passing defense) if the visitors are to walk out of New York with a win.

Why Bet on the Giants?

In many ways, this game favors the Giants, who should make a good home betting puppy if they can take advantage of their chances and strong history. For starters, the Bengals have not won any of their three All-time trips to the Giants. Moreover, Dalton and the Bengal are well-documented strugglers when it comes to playing Prime Time Night games—Cincinnati hasn’t won a road MNF game since 1990 and is pathetically 5-9 in its last 14 Night Time games, including a 1-7 record on the road. History aside, the Giants have been a good home team this season, led by QB Eli Manning who has averaged over 330 passing yards in his home games this season; a factor that should bode well against Cincy that has struggled on the road and has been coughing up mega yardages in the passing game all season by allowing the fourth-most yards passing in the nation this season (at 275.1 YPG). And even with Cruz possibly out, NY shouldn’t be that troubled in the offensive targets department, thanks to the presence of several reliable pass-catchers, led by the explosive Odell Beckham, who has tallied 17 receptions for 317 yards (18.6 yards per catch) and four touchdowns in his last three games. All told, the Giants barely have a running game and their defense has been blowing hot and cold; two areas that will need to be addressed if the hosts are to have a complete game and a win over the dangerous Bengals.

My Betting Picks and Predictions

The Giants have several issues to deal with, and containing Green and his well-rested gang will not be easy. That being said, it’s hard to overlook the plenty of history that is working against Dalton and Bengals in this game, especially against an NY team that is streaking and somehow finding ways of making key plays down the stretch of games to record wins. As such, leaning on the Giants for the win and cover sounds like the best bet here. Total-wise, there have been forecasts about potential damp conditions, and that could affect both teams and their pass-reliant offenses. In addition, both teams tend to play rather conservatively during primetime games, so an UNDER total looks likely here.
