Week 3 SNF: Chiefs vs Falcons Matchup Analysis & Expert Tips

Week 3 Sunday Night Football: Chiefs vs Falcons Matchup Analysis & Expert Tips

Written by on September 21, 2024

NFL Game Odds: Chiefs vs Falcons SNF | The Atlanta Falcons dumped a $180 million contract on Kirk Cousins in the off-season.

They didn’t get their money’s worth out of him in Week 1 as he looked shaky and hesitant in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

For most of the Falcons’ Week 2 game in Philadelphia on Monday Night Football, the Falcons relied heavily on the running game in a grinding, back-and-forth battle with the Eagles.

When the Falcons got a last-gasp chance to drive down the field and score, though, Cousins led a quick drive with no timeouts, finding Drake London for a seven-yard score with 34 seconds remaining in regulation to put the Falcons ahead, 22-21.

They would hold the lead and win. Next up is another prime-time matchup as Kansas City comes to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night.

Kansas City Chiefs -170

The Chiefs opened with wins over two other AFC contenders, the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Now they head on the road for the first time. The defense has held the line for the Chiefs so far while the offense gets things figured out.

One major problem on offense for this week is injuries, as wide receiver Hollywood Brown is done for the season with a shoulder injury and tailback Isiah Pacheco (leg) is done for at least four more weeks.

On defense, the front seven has been both quick and physical. The secondary has held its own, limiting opportunities to throw the ball down the field.

Patrick Mahomes has been crucial, as he regains form. His impeccable late touchdown pass to Rashee Rice shows progress.

If you like the Chiefs, you see their defense containing Bijan Robinson and pressuring Kirk Cousins into mistakes.

Atlanta Falcons +138

The NFC South looked like Tampa Bay and a collection of rebuilds before the regular season, but the Falcons and the Saints look ready to compete as well.

Taking down the Chiefs would be a significant accomplishment – and would make up for that disappointing setback against the Steelers.

So far, the Falcons have been able to avoid major injuries, and Cousins looked last week like he has recovered fully from that Achilles injury.

One major factor is the O-line, as they dominated the Eagles’ front seven on Monday night. They opened holes for Bijan Robinson and gave Cousins time in the pocket when he needed it down the stretch.

Drake London is growing into a receiver who can come through in the clutch.

The Falcons’ defense gives up yards but effectively keeps teams out of the end zone, at least so far.

Chiefs vs Falcons SNF Final Score and Prediction

The Chiefs have played with fire, but their defense has been stout enough to keep major problems from happening.

They should keep the Falcons within striking range all night long, and if they are still trailing in the fourth quarter, it’s hard to imagine Patrick Mahomes not finding a way to deliver victory.

I predict a final score of Kansas City 27, Atlanta 23.
