Week 17 NFL Betting: Lions and Packers Meet in Pivotal AFC North Matchup

Written by on December 27, 2014

There is nothing quite like a game where the winner takes all in the final week, and we are lucky enough to have a few of those coming up this weekend. You have the Steelers and the Bengals squaring off to decide the AFC North, and the Falcons and Panthers going head to head to decide the NFC South, with a spot in the playoffs up for grabs. So it is a great time to do some NFL betting, but perhaps the best of the bunch, though, sees the 11-4 Detroit Lions head into Green Bay to face the 11-4 Packers, with the winner taking the NFC North and likely a bye in the first week of the playoffs. Date/Time: December 28th, 4:25 PM Location: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin The Packers could have essentially had control of the division by beating the Buffalo Bills a couple of weeks ago, but the offense uncharacteristically sputtered en route to a 13-21 loss. The got back on track with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend, but they looked less than convincing in doing so. The biggest issue for the Packers over the past couple of weeks has been getting the ball in the end zone. They put up 431 total yards in that game, but only turned that into 20 points. They are going to have to be a lot more lethal against a very good Lions defense. The Lions have found a way to win all year, and it is the defense that has pretty much carried them along. They have now won 4-straight, including a couple of tight wins against division rivals over the past two weeks. The offense had shown some signs of life in the couple of weeks before those two games, which means that anyone who has to play them should beware. If this team can put it all together on offense and defense, they are a legitimate Super Bowl threat. BETTING ODDS The Packers have been lights out at home this year, which is why they are in as 6-point favorites here. They are 8-6 ATS this season, but more impressively, they are 5-1 ATS when playing in the cozy confines of Lambeau Field. The Lions have been playing it close all year and are 7-8 ATS, and are just 2-4 ATS on the road. It was Detroit who came away with the 19-7 win when these two met earlier this season, but over the past three seasons, Green Bay is 2-0 SU and ATS when playing the Lions at Lambeau. Game Odds: LIONS: +7½-110, OV 47 -110, ML +290 PACKERS: -7½-110, UN 47 -110, ML -340 Green Bay, as always, have made Lambeau Field a fortress, so it’s hard seeing them losing this one, especially with so much at stake. I like them to win and cover the 6 points.
