Top ATP Events for 2025: Dates, Top Contenders & Tennis Betting Analysis

Written by on December 12, 2024

The Top ATP Events for 2025 gets underway in just a few weeks as men’s pro tennis starts the year down in the warmth of the Southern Hemisphere.

The warm-up events for the Australian Open will start just before the end of 2024, as hard court tournaments down under get the year’s action underway.

Jannik Sinner, the #1 ranked ATP player in the world, will defend his 2024 Australian Open title in Melbourne.

Such fellow notables as Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz will also appear in the bracket, as will former champions Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic, now 37 years old, is looking for his 11th Australian Open title, which would be a record. He has a new coach this year in Andy Murray.

If he wins, this would also be his 100th tour-level title, although he is opening competition at the Brisbane International, and a win year would also make that total 100 titles.

Let’s look at the ATP calendar and discuss some news items from men’s tennis that may influence your online betting choices.

Top ATP Events for 2025 Analysis

There are several other rising stars in men’s tennis who would love to win their first Grand Slam in Melbourne next month. In addition to Zverev and Fritz, these include Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, and Andrey Rublev. The top Aussie in the field is Alex de Minaur, currently ranked 9th among ATP players. He has gotten to the fourth round in three straight years – but no further. Can he break through this year? Nick Kyrgios will return for his hometown fans for the first time in two years. Other notable Australians in the men’s draw include Jordan Thompson and Alexei Popyrin.

Jannik Sinner

Sinner faces a great deal of pressure and scrutiny, but he could also continue to elevate his game and take multiple Grand Slams in 2025 – if not win the calendar Grand Slam outright. He has powerful ground strokes and top-shelf defending that make him tough to beat on any surface.

^

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz is still the most complete player in men’s tennis today, and few players bring the intangibles he has in terms of energy and charisma. The temptation for him will be to overplay under the pressure of pursuing legends. We will learn more about what makes Alcaraz tick as a competitor under the pressure that 2025 will bring.

Taylor Fritz

Fritz got to the U.S. Open and ATP Finals, getting to new heights in his career. He has a top mental game, which is helpful given the fact that he does not rank in the top five in the majority of serve categories. That means he is using other elements of his game to win. He needs to get used to the idea of pressing up into the front court more frequently. He’s tall enough (and sharp enough mentally) to pull that off.

^

Alexander Zverev

Zverev has settled his off-the-court legal problems, and he has the best serve on the ATP Tour. That means that his whole game – and a lot of the intangibles that go with it – are moving the right way. Don’t be surprised if he takes one or more Grand Slam titles this year.

^

Ben Shelton

Shelton brings all kinds of confidence, and the losses he took in the latter part of 2024, including the Davis Cup, will likely ground him and give him perspective going into next year. His left-handed serve confuses opponents, particularly with the power that he puts behind it. He is fourth on the tour in percentage of service games won. What he needs to reduce, though, are the errors.

^

Casper Ruud

Ruud has built a disciplined approach to the game, which includes a willingness to press up into the front court. He brings an unmatched efficiency in his movements. Medvedev has had a hard time with his serve, but he is also second on the tour in percentage of break points converted. He finished in the top five despite those service issues, likely due to stubbornness alone. That’s one character trait that you can’t teach, but which can take you a long way.
