Why should you bet on the Chippewas?
The Chippewas came on strong in the second half of the season, rolling off that five-game winning streak. That win over Northern Illinois saw them trailing 17-0 at the intermission but putting up 31 points after halftime and taking the lead for the first time with 1:32 remaining in the fourth period. Michigan transfer Shane Morris came in at quarterback and did a solid job, throwing 26 touchdown passes against only 13 interceptions, picking up 2,908 yards on the season. Tailback Jonathan Ward picked up 988 yards on the season and found the end zone nine times. Morris’ favorite target was Mark Chapman, who led the team with 54 receptions and 805 yards, scoring five touchdowns. How about that defense? The Chippewas permitted 26.8 points per game this year, 68th in the nation, so they do let teams find the end zone a good bit. Against Wyoming, they will need to shore up that run defense and pass coverage, because the Cowboys can pile up the points in a hurry. If you like Central Michigan, then you see that resiliency that led them to that five-game winning streak, and that ability to score quickly, helping them overcome a chippy Wyoming squad. Why should you put your money on the Cowboys?
Wyoming had some major struggles with their offense coming down the stretch, as they only managed 17 or fewer points in four of their last six games. That loss to San Jose State gave the Spartans just their second win of the season, in a game that Wyoming never led despite having the advantage in total yards, first downs and time of possession. They are not in the top 100 in the nation in running yards or passing yards per game — or scoring, as they just put up 22.3 points per game. Quarterback Josh Allen does have 13 touchdown passes on the year but only 1,658 yards. The leading rusher, Trey Woods, only has 474 yards on the season. So if you’re expecting this to turn into one of those offensively explosive bowl games, you’re likely to be disappointed. On defense, though, Wyoming can be quite stingy. They ranked 13th in the nation, permitting just 17.8 points per game. The problem for the Cowboys down the stretch was that the poor performances by the offense led to extended time on the field for the Wyoming defenders, and the fatigue (and frustration) led to some breakdowns on defense that led to those season-ending losses.Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Betting Trends
