Kyle Busch dropped down to win the Camping World Truck Series Fr8Auctions 200 a week ago at Atlanta Motor Speedway, at least assuaging his lack of success in the NASCAR Cup Series so far in 2021 with a victory in the lower division. Kyle Busch won his 60th Camping World Truck Series race last week, extending his own record after leading in 102 of 130 laps. This was his sixth win in the series at Atlanta Motor Speedway, as he beat Austin Hill by 4.33 seconds. John Hunter Nemechek came in third after beating Busch in the previous Camping World Truck Series event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This made 214 wins overall for Busch in NASCAR.
Busch led for the majority of the race’s first two stages, but Nemechek surged to win both stages, picking up playoff points. However, in the Stage 2 break, Busch pulled away from Nemechek on Lap 63 off pit road, and he took the lead for the duration, except for some green-flag stops that saw Chase Purdy take the lead from lap 102 until lap 105.
There were three overall cautions during the race, a yellow at Lap 15 for a planned competition and then the two stage breaks. The race went green for the last 63 laps, which means that Hill never had an opportunity to push Busch.
Johnny Sauter came in fourth, and then came Sheldon Creed (fifth) and Zane Smith (sixth). The top ten were rounded out by Ross Chastain, Matt Crafton, Brett Moffitt and Stewart Friesen, respectively. Friesen took a penalty on Lap 63 for having an uncontrolled tire in a stop while under caution. Bill Lester made his first start in any NASCAR national series since 2007 and came in 36th.
