Beat the Bookies: Expert Analysis, Odds & Picks for Belgian GP

Belgian Grand Prix Odds and what you Need to Know: At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri paid off on +1600 odds to deliver his first Grand Prix win as a Formula 1 driver, continuing McLaren’s rise in the sport at the expense of Mercedes and Ferrari.

Drama ensued, as it will, as Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, headed for a pit stop two laps ahead of Piastri, who was ahead of him.

Piastri and Norris had started the race in the first two grid positions, and Piastri zipped past Norris to Turn 1.

Max Verstappen had gone off-road to move into second, but Piastri had essentially won the race.

Norris came out of his final pit with fresh tires and drove so fast that Piastri could not keep up. It took urgent requests from Norris’ team engineer for him to allow Piastri to take the lead back.

McLaren hasn’t been in a position to claim a title since 2010, so getting used to winning is just part of building a team.

As the series moves to Belgium this week, let’s look at the sports betting odds for each driver to win as well as our thoughts on the race.

Belgian GP Highlights

Spa-Francorchamps is a course that runs 4.2 miles and features over 100 meters in elevation changes.

In contrast to the fairly slow turns at the Hungaroring, this course is significantly different.

The corners range from medium to high speed, and several of them have been repaved for 2024, adding to the grip levels. This type of corner has been a major boon to Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team.

In both 2022 and 2023, Verstappen won by wide margins despite not having optimal grid position.

Max Verstappen

Verstappen is the three-time defending champion of the Belgian Grand Prix.

The fact that he is finally available at plus money is definitely a shift from how his odds have been considered for the past couple of seasons.

Is it an overcorrection? It’s possible, as track trends tend to hold in F1. If he wins again, that would tie him with Lewis Hamilton for the third-most wins here (4) behind Ayrton Senna (5) and Michael Schumacher (6).

It is true that Verstappen’s last three failures to win have come at races that he won last season, but familiarity is still a positive factor, as is the unusual value that Verstappen brings right now.

Also, Verstappen has seven wins in 2024. No other driver has more than one.

This is why he still has that immense lead in the driver standings. Verstappen also doesn’t have a four-race winless streak since 2019.

Lando Norris

Norris, despite the drama in Hungary this past weekend, has eight podium finishes, well ahead of everyone besides Verstappen.

In the last five races, he has three second-place finishes, and he also has a win of his own.

He should have plenty of motivation after getting dragged in the press for the way he handled Hungary, so expect a strong race out of him.

Sergio Perez

Perez could find himself on the way out at Red Bull if he doesn’t have a strong performance this time around.

Daniel Ricciardo is also reaching a point where he needs to race more effectively to have a contract offered to him for next season.

The drivers’ market is less predictable than usual, so expect to see several drivers a little further down the odds list make some runs in Belgium.
