Breaking Down the British GP: MotoGP Betting Preview

Ever since the British Grand Prix was moved from Donington Park to Silverstone, there has been a debate among sports betting enthusiasts and MotoGP fans at large about which track is better.

Donington Park featured the undulating Craner Curves, which made turning more of a premium. Silverstone has more of a flowing layout that allows for greater speed.

The 800cc bikes were having a hard time dealing with the tightness of Donington, but Donington also didn’t have features that would keep the bikes from bunching up.

The surface is high; the circuit is on the site of a former Royal Air Force airfield, so the surface is high for audiences, unlike many circuits that feature a lower area within the seating bowl.

Let’s look at the odds for some of the notable riders to win the 2024 MotoGP British Grand Prix as well as some wager card suggestions.

Francesco Bagnaia

Bagnaia is the reigning world champ and looks to keep that lead going as the circuit enters the second half of the 2024 campaign.

He dropped behind Jorge Martin in the standings early in the season, but after four wins in a row, he is back on top of the riders’ standings. He has six wins in nine races overall, while Martin has won two (Portugal and France).

Maverick Vinales is the only other rider with a win this season. Bagnaia already has one win at Silverstone in his career (2022), but this is a course that can produce some surprises, particularly when rain comes into the equation.

Bagnaia almost won this race last year but some bike issues during the sprint portion doomed him to finish second, just 0.2 seconds behind Aleix Espargaro.

Jorge Martin

Martin had the lead late at Sachsenring but ended up crashing out, so you can expect he’ll be ready to seize that momentum again and get some payback.

However, his best finish at Silverstone is fifth place; in 2023, he came in sixth in both of the Silverstone events.

Marc Marquez

Marquez is still in the hunt for his first victory for Ducati. He has three runner-up finishes, including in the last race at the Sachsenring.

However, he has been winless at Silverstone since 2014 and hasn’t finished a Grand Prix race here since 2019.

Enea Bastianini

Bastianini has done well so far this season, with three straight top-four finishes, but there are other winning picks who look a little more promising, especially given the value involved.

Want some dark horse ideas? Alex Marquez is tenth in the riders’ standings, but he could emerge from the chaos here.

After all, over the last nine years, Silverstone has generated nine different winners. Jorge Lorenzo was the last driver to put up consecutive wins here, in 2012 and 2013.

Alex Marquez got his first podium of 2024 at the Sachsenring and could ride that momentum even farther. He won the sprint race here last year after qualifying third, but a mechanical issue forced him out of the main race.
