The reigning MotoGP champion, Francesco Bagnaia, is fortunate just to be in the field in this week’s race after he went through an ugly highside on the first lap of last week’s main race in Catalunya. After the highside, he was hit by Brad Binder and got a sizable contusion on his knee. The hematoma runs all the way down to his foot and makes moving his leg difficult. He did get medical clearance to ride this week, which means he will get a chance to defend his 2022 win at Misano. Rider concerns about the course in Catalunya only grew after the race, focusing on the shoddy grip from the asphalt, particularly at Corner 5. This week, though, things and move to Misano. That opens the door for a lot of the competition as he has put together a stellar track record at Misano. Franco Morbidelli got points at Catalunya but would like a podium finish this week, and he’s one of just two riders (along with Augusto Fernandez of GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3) to get points in each GP in 2023. (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) looks to bounce back after having to stop his own race early last week. His teammate, Jack Miller, had a much better finish in Barcelona than he did in the Austrian Grand Prix. Dani Pedrosa will join as a wildcard entry.Marc Marquez
