Michigan International Speedway welcomes a full slate of NASCAR racing, including the Henry Ford Health 200, set for Saturday. On Sunday, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series will hit the Circuit Trois-Rivieres in Quebec for Les 60 Tours Rousseau Metal presented by Julia Wine. ARCA Menards Series and NASCAR Pinty’s Series Race Preview
Henry Ford Health 200
This will be the 12th race of the ARCA Menards Series in 2022. Chandler Smith won the last time out at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, leading 111 of 200 laps. Rajah Caruth still leads the series point standings, but his lead over Nick Sanchez shrank to just two points. The ARCA Menards Series has run at the Michigan International Speedway 41 times prior to this year. Ty Gibbs won this race in 2021, driving a Toyota; in fact, Toyota cars have won four ARCA Menards Series events in a row at Michigan International Speedway, with Sheldon Creed (2018), Michael Self (2019) and Riley Herbst (2020) picking up the three prior wins. Brandon Jones won here in 2016 and 2017 with MDM Motorsports and Chevrolet. A Ford has not finished first in the ARCA Menards Series here since 2012, when Chris Buescher, a NASCAR Cup Series driver now, won the race.
Nick Sanchez is the only driver among the top three in the series standings with experience at this track. He came in third here in 2021, his only prior start at Michigan International Speedway. Rajah Caruth came in eighth last week at Indianapolis, and Sanchez came in seventh. Daniel Dye, who is just five points back of Caruth in the series point standings, came in fourth at the Brickyard to make up some ground. Sammy Smith ran well at Indianapolis but could not snag the win. He was second in laps led but settled for the runner-up finish, and he is eighth in the driver standings, 19 points back of seventh-place Brad Smith.
Corey Heim has already picked up one ARCA Menards Series win this season, coming at Daytona, and he will drive the #20 Crescent Tools Toyota Camry for the first time since May, when he drove it at Charlotte. During that hiatus, he picked up his second Camping World Truck Series win at Gateway in June. He is 16th in points in the ARCA Menards Series despite a limited number of races in this division, but of the drivers with just six starts, he ranks second. He was the runner-up here last year and will look to snag the win.
Les 60 Tours Rousseau Metal
Larry Jackson is back in the #84 O’Neil Electric car for Dodge Racing, returning to Pinty’s Series for the first time since the Toronto Indy, when a mechanical failure kept him from finishing. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin is a crowd favorite, as he grew up in Trois-Rivieres, and he won here in 2014 and 2019, so he makes a smart pick. With just five races left in the season, each win is crucial for points standings.
