The next event in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series takes place on the paved short track at Richmond Raceway, with the ToyotaCare 250, set for 1:30 pm Eastern time on Saturday. The drivers will run 250 laps — and cover 187.5 miles. Martin Truex Jr dropped down from the Cup Series to race in Pinty’s Truck Race on Dirt at Bristol, leading 105 of 150 laps and taking the win, his first truck series victory in three starts. Let’s take a closer look at the truck series race as you sketch out your sports betting for the weekend.
NASCAR News: Camping World Truck Series ToyotaCare 250 Preview
In all of the races at Bristol last week, the oddsmakers made such dirt veterans as Christopher Bell the favorites. After all, the Cup Series hadn’t run on dirt in 50 years, and the truck series drivers who were supposed to dominate could not keep up with Truex. This was his first race in this series since 2006, and the race featured a considerable amount of drama. Both Kyle Larson, the pre-race favorite, and John Hunter Nemechek, who leads the truck series in points, were already in the garage when the race came to an end due to wrecks along the way.
While Truex does not win often in this series, a Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota truck has won three in a row. Truex is now the 36th driver to win races in the Cup Series, the Xfinity Series and the Camping World Truck Series. Truex was using the truck series race to prep himself for the course so that he could run well in the Cup Series event too.
Sheldon Creed, the defending Camping World Truck Series champion, led laps two through 39, but then Truex moved into control. Ben Rhodes pulled up next to Truex on the front row ahead of the last restart, coming on Lap 139, but he missed a crucial shift, and dropped for a minute before clawing his way back to second place. Rhodes ended up 1.149 seconds behind Truex, and then Todd Gilliland, Chase Briscoe and Enfinger rounded out the first five.
Nemechek’s crash happened in Lap 49, as contact coming from Matt Crafton’s Ford and a collision with Derek Kraus’ #19 car sent Nemechek’s #4 Toyota out for the day. Larson coud not get around Mike Marlar’s truck on Lap 99 and ended up taking significant damage thanks to a big crash with Danny Bohn’s #30 Toyota.
Truex, Larson and Briscoe were three of six Cup Series drivers who came down to run in the Truck Series event as well. Bubba Walace (11th), Kevin Harvick (15th), Daniel Suarez came in 17th, and then Larson settled for 35th.
