NASCAR has increased its focus on road courses; over the last ten Cup Series races, the circuit has hit the Circuit of the Americas, Road America, Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen International. The road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is less similar to Watkins Glen and closer to Circuit of the Americas and Road America.

Chase Elliott came in second a week ago because of a penalty that caused him to start from the back without the crew chief he is used to. He kept pushing up through the field until his tires flat-spotted and he had to make an extra pit stop. After that, he was the last driver in the lead lap, but he was able to steam by everyone save Larson. What we learned is that Elliott is the best driver on a road course, and it is not even close.

Kyle Larson won at Sonoma and came in second at Circuit of the Americas, a result that may have had a lot to do with the weather. He was the third-best betting choice at Watkins Glen and ended up taking the win. He’s been a hot driver in the Cup Series a lot in 2021, so he’s hard to leave off your wager card.

Christopher Bell has been hot lately, and last week saw him dueling with Larson before he went into a spin in Turn 1 after contact with Larson. He had to go to the back at the start after failing inspections, and he still managed to finish seventh despite these actors. He offers a considerable amount of value here, making him a smart pick.

Kyle Busch has come out of nowhere to make 2021 a bit of a redemption, racing well no matter what the course. Busch has always done well on road courses; in his last 18 road course races, his top five percentage is .444, and his top ten percentage is .667. He also brings some value, and he’s definitely not a stranger to the winner’s circle.

A.J. Allmendinger came in 29th at Road America, but he came in seventh at Daytona on the road course and came in fifth at Circuit of the Americas. If you’re looking for a darker horse to come out of nowhere and snag a win, this is someone to keep in mind.
