NASCAR’s truck racers will converge on North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina for the Tyson 250 on Saturday afternoon. The action starts at 1:30 pm Eastern time, with FOX carrying the telecast. The Motor Racing Network and the SiriusXM app will have the radio call. Last week, Christian Eckes won the Buckle Up South Carolina 200 at Darlington Raceway, giving him his second win in the series in 2023. He led 82 of the 158 laps and won in double overtime. He had had a run of poor finishes lately, failing to crack the top 14 in five straight races. Stewart Friesen took second after a late charge and a solid restart in the first overtime. Tanner Gray took third, followed by William Byron, who drives full-time in the Cup Series, and Carson Hocevar. Interestingly, this is only the third NASCAR event at North Wilkesboro ever and the first since 1996, so handicapping the truck series here in its debut will be challenging. We do have the updated NASCAR betting odds for the field as well as some wager suggestions.

Bet on the NASCAR Truck Series The Tyson 250!
Three drivers have an edge over the rest of the field in terms of exposure to the track, as Zane Smith, Carson Hocevar and Corey Heim all got to represent their manufacturers for a test run. Heim and Hocevar will also take part in late model events ahead of Saturday’s race, along with Tyler Ankrum, Grant Enfinger and Ty Majeski.
If you also follow the NASCAR Cup Series, then you likely recognize a lot of the names from the odds list. Kyle Larson and William Byron are the two favorites to win, and Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell and Bubba Wallace are also dropping down for the race.
In terms of track comparison, Martinsville Speedway is probably the closest comparison to North Wilkesboro, which is an 0.625-mile oval, fairly flat, although the back stretch is uphill and the front stretch is downhill. The pavement is much older at North Wilkesboro, though, which makes the comparison less helpful. Darlington’s surface is closer to North Wilkesboro in terms of overall roughness and wear and tear on tires.
Corey Heim has driven well on comparable tracks; he won at Martinsville after leading a race-best 82 laps and taking down his onetime boss, Kyle Busch, in the race. He took eighth at Darlington, where he led 66 laps and was second in each of the first two stages. As we mentioned before, he should have the most experience on the track, which will come in handy. He qualified in fourth at Martinsville and took the pole at Darlington, finishing ahead of several Cup Series drivers along the way.
Why is Kyle Larson favored over William Byron? Byron just drove in the Craftsman Truck Series last weekend and took a well-deserved fourth, leading seven laps and winning Stage 2. This was his second start in the Craftsman Truck Series after finishing third on the dirt at Bristol. Byron also won at Darlington in the Cup Series and won the Martinsville race in the Truck Series a year ago. Larson has not appeared in a Truck Series race since 2021, and his truck hasn’t finished in the top ten in three starts in 2023. This same truck had just one top-five result in 11 starts despite having several elite drivers behind the wheel. Of the two favorites, then, Byron is the better pick here.
