The next event in the NASCAR Xfinity Series is the Ag-Pro 300, set to run from Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, April 24, starting at 4:00 pm Eastern time. You can catch the telecast on FOX, with radio coverage on Motor Racing Network. The last Xfinity Series race, the Cook Out 250 at Martinsville, started on April 9 but did not end until April 11 because of rain delay, but Josh Berry kept his focus and won his first Xfinity Series event in just 13 starts, taking the lead away from Ty Gibbs in Lap 223 of 250. He beat teammate Noah Gragson by 0.590 seconds, and Daniel Hemric scooted past Gibbs in the waning seconds to swipe third place.
As you consider your Xfinity Series betting for Saturday’s race, we’ll look back at the Cook Out 250 and then ahead at your top picks for this weekend.
NASCAR News: Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300 Preview
The Cook Out 250 ran 91 laps on Friday night but did not resume until noon on Sunday. Berry led 95 laps, more than any other driver in the race, 10 before the rain delay and then 85 more on Sunday. Gragson picked up a $100,000 bonus for being the top finisher in the Dash 4 Cash competition within the race. Gibbs settled for fourth place, and then Brandon Jones, who briefly led the race right at the rain delay, finished fifth. Austin Cindric, the current Xfinity Series points leader and the 2020 series champion, came in sixth. The rest of the top ten, respectively, were Harrison Burton, Justin Haley, Justin Allgaier and Michael Annett. Berry is not a full-time Xfinity SEries driver, but he did gain eligibility for the Dash 4 Cash bonus at Talladega this weekend, along with Gragson, Hemric and Jones.
One notorious fact about the Ag-Pro 300 is that it has frequently had some spectacular crashed. In 2002, there were 30 cars involved in a huge pileup on the 24th lap. The race runs 113 laps; the first two stages run 25 laps apiece, and then the third and final stage lasts 83 laps. Martin Truex Jr has three Ag-Pro 300 titles, and Chevrolet has been the top manufacturer here, with 18 titles overall, including last year, when Justin Haley won this event.
Haley is one of the top contenders again in 2021; if he can win, he would join Elliott Salder, Joe Nemechek and Joey Logano as the only two-time winners of the Ag-Pro 300. Truex is the only three-time champ. Haley is still looking for his first victory in 2021; his top finish this year has been a sixth-place result in the Contender Boats 250. However, his finishes have been consistent this year, and so he is on one of the top slots as far as driver points are concerned.
Austin Cindric comes in with two victories this year, at the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 and the Call 811 Before You Dig 200, so he has to be one of the favorites here as well. A.J. Allmendinger and Daniel Hemric are also strong contenders based on their performances this season and at Talladega Superspeedway in the past.
