Rome E-Prix: Formula E Betting Preview

The Rome E-Prix will be back in Rome, set for April 10, 2021, after its cancellation in 2020. The circuit will host Rounds 3 and 4 of the FIA Formula E Championship in 2021. If you are wondering what Formula E is, it is actually a promotion that has been around since 2014. The cars look like Formula 1 cars, but the “E” stands for “electric,” as the cars are all electrically powered. Each engine is set to a maximum of power of 180 kilowatts, and the drivers race according to a scoring system that largely resembles Formula 1, although the driver who completes the fastest lap gets an extra bonus point.

Let’s take a look at this weekend’s Rome E-Prix as you consider your Fromula E betting options.

Formula E News: Rome E-Prix Preview

The Formula E track in Rome is in the Eur neighborhood, on the southern outskirts of Rome. There are 19 turns in the circuit, which runs 3.385 kilometers. The hairpin turns are Turns 4, 7 through 11, and 14 through 19, with Turn 15 going around the Piazza di Marconi. The start line takes place on the opposite side of the circuit from the finish, so drivers will begin in Largo Parri. There is also a stretch in the course that links the Palazzo della Civilta Italiana with the Palazzo dei Congressi.

Formula E has 24 drivers signed up for 2021. Antonio Felix de Costa won the Drivers’ Championship in 2020 for DS Techeetah, and he returns with the same team to defend his title. Other Formula E teams include Jaguar Racing, Tag Heuer Porsche, DS Techcheetah, Rokit Venturi Racing, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, Mercedes, Dragon/Penske/AutoSport and BMW Andretti.

Nyck de Vries (Mercedes) leads the driver’s championship standings so far in 2021, having swept Free Practice, Group Qualifying, Super Pole, the race itself, and the fastest lap, at the season opener in Diriyah. No other driver had swept all of those first-place results at the same race in the history of Formula E.

Sam Bird (Jaguar Racing) picked up the win in Round 2, also at Diriyah. Bird has won at least one race in every Formula E season since the promotion began, back in 2014, and he is the only driver who has that on his resume. That win also brought him into a tie with Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) for second place for the most wins all time, with 10. Bird won the Rome E-Prix in 2018, so he should be one of the favorites in 2021 as well.

Dragon / Penske / AutoSport made its best Formula E start with top-five finishes in Round 2, and their cars will have a new powertrain at work in Round 3. DS Techeetah, the defending team champions, will also feature a new power train. The champs did not do well in Round 1 but came back to take third and fourth in Round 2. Jean-Eric Vergne had his third-place result stripped when he did not use his second ATTACK MODE activation in the race. Bringing in a new powertrain will only help Vergne, along with teammate Antonio Felix da Costa, get better results going forward.

Robin Frijns and Edo Mortara did well in both of the Diriyah races and are in third and fourth place in the standings, respectively, after hitting the podium in the opening races. Oliver Turvey had results of tenth and sixth, respectively, getting points right away.
