Andrey Koreshkov vs Lorenz Larkin

It’s actually a rescheduled bout from earlier this year, as Larkin had had to withdraw with an injury. Larkin has only gone 2-2 since joining Bellator and it has almost been twelve months since his last fight. Koreshkov went ahead with the original fight, taking down Mike Jasper via unanimous decision. Larkin has been a bit of a mystery in Bellator, as he dropped his first two bouts. Hsi opponents were Douglas Lima and Paul Daley, two of the top Bellator welterweights, but Larkin has experience in both Strikeforce and UFC. He did win his last two, defeating Ion Pascu and Fernando Gonzalez. Now Larkin takes on another one of the top welterweights within Bellator. So while Larkin does have the UFC resume, including wins over the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Neil Magny, that momentum is gone. Koreshkov is a fighter that just wears down the opposition with sheer pressure, driving his opponent to exhaustion. Larkin likes to fight the same way, but Koreshkov is two inches taller and has four inches of reach. When Koreshkov can come in as the bigger fighter, he tends to win. Final Prediction: Koreshkov wins via decision

Joe Schilling vs Tony Johnson

  • Bellator 229 Odds: TBA
This one features an uneven fighter in Schilling who can deliver an exciting finish, thanks to his kickboxing skills, but he can also end up on the wrong end of a bomb. He has a 4-5 overall record in Bellator, but he has won his last two — but those two have been his only fights in the last four years. Schilling is in trouble if he gets on the ground, so Johnson is likely to try to pile up some takedowns and see if he can deliver the submission, or if not, at least enough points from getting him to the mat. Johnson has not fought much over the last five years. While he does like to get things to the ground, the amount of rust that he has likely gathered over that time does not bode well for him. I see Schilling coming in and establishing the rhythm with his kickboxing, so that he can take a win against a marginal Bellator fighter. Final Prediction: Schilling wins via decision

Goiti Yamauchi vs Saad Awad

  • Bellator 229 Odds: TBA
It puts a great grappler (Yamauchi) with a more balanced fighter (Awad). Awad looks to end a two-fight losing streak, after falling to Brandon Girtz and Benson Henderson. Yamauchi ran off three submission wins in a row, including a thrilling victory over Ryan Couture, but then Michael Chandler brought that streak to an end at Bellator 192. He did win back in November, when he beat Daniel Weichel on the cards. While Awad has the Bellator name recognition, Yamauchi has the better game right now. Final Prediction: Yamauchi wins via decision
