This weekend’s boxing action is highlighted by a fight for the WBO Junior Lightweight Championship, a 12-round at Caesars Bluewaters in Dubai. Jamel Herring will defend his belt against Carl Frampton, who looks to make history by winning a title in three different weight classes. The other title bouts this weekend pit Donnie Nietes against Pablo Carrillo for the vacant WBO International Super Flyweight belt, as well as Tyrone McKenna against Zhankosh Tuarov, as Tuarov looks to defend his WBO Intercontinental ten-stone belt against the challenger.

We have the full schedule, with boxing odds, as well as some thoughts about each title tilt.

Boxing News: Top Fights for This Weekend

Saturday, April 3
Alexis Diaz (+1100) vs Hasanboy Dusmatov (-3500) — Light Flyweight, 10 rounds

Emmany Kalombo (+500) vs Israil Madrimov (-1000) — Super Welterweight

Patricio Lopez Moreno (+1100) vs Shakhram Glyasov (-3500) — Super Lightweight, 10 rounds

Murodjon Akhmadaliev (-800) vs Ryosuke Iwasa (+450) — Super Bantamweight, 12 rounds

Donnie Nietes (-800) vs Pablo Carrillo (+450) — WBO International Super Flyweight Title, 10 rounds
Donnie Nietes (42-1-5, 23 KO) comes back to the ring for the first time in more than two years for the vacant WBO International Super Flyweight title — a title that Nietes abandoned due to his own inactivity. He won the title against Kazuto Ioka in December 2018, winning via split decision. Even with all of that rust, though, he will not have that much of a challenge in Pablo Carrillo (25-7-1, 16 KO).

Final Prediction:
Nietes wins via knockout

Tyrone McKenna (+300) vs Zhankosh Tuarov (-400) — WBO Intercontinental Ten-Stone Title, 10 rounds
Tyrone McKenna (21-2-1, 6 KO) lost to Ohara Davies in a split decision at the MTK Golden Contract final back in September, and his next fight is a challenge of Zhankosh Tuarov (24-0, 17 KO. Despite that unbeaten record, Tuarov is fairly inexperienced as far as fighting at the pro level, but he should have what it takes to stack points.

Final Prediction:
Tuarov wins via decision

Heber Rondon (+1200) vs Tursynbay Kulakhmet (-5000) — Super Welterweight, 10 rounds

Jamel Herring (-115) vs Carl Frampton (-115) — WBO Junior Lightweight Title Bout, 12 rounds
O/U 10 ½ rounds (O -390, U +305)
Carl Frampton (28-2, 16 KO) is now 34 years old, but while his top fighting days might be behind him, he still has a wealth of talent and still has the strength to win another belt. He took his first title in 2014, taking down Kiko Martinez to win the IBF Super Bantamweight belt. He defended that belt twice and then added the WBA Super Bantamweight crown in 2016, beating Scott Quigg in a split decision. He won the WBA Super Featherweight belt via majority decision, beating Leo Santa Cruz in New York City. Santa Cruz won the rematch in a majority decision to give Frampton his first loss. He would recover with three wins in a row but never looked quite as ferocious, and he lost his next title fight, when he challenged Josh Warrington for the IBF Featherweight title. In his last two fights, he beat Tyler McCreary on the cards and knocked out Darren Traynor, with the last fight coming in August.

Herring (22-2, 10 KO) has developed steadily over the course of his career. At the age of 35, he has actually been a late bloomer, getting his first title bout just two years ago. In fact, losses to Denis Shafikov and Ladarius Miller, two unimpressive opponents. He ended up moving down from lightweight and then took off, beating Mayasuki Ito on the cards to win the WBO Junior Lightweight belt. He has defended his title successfully twice, beating previously undefeated Lamont Roach on the cards, and then he beat Jonathan Oquendo via disqualification, as Oquendo was way behind on the cards and then started intentionally headbutting the champ.

Final Prediction:
Frampton wins via decision
