Going into 2025, there are some trends in pro cycling that will likely influence your sports betting decisions on the sport.
There are many indications that the top riders in the sport will start doing fewer races.
The crash risk has gotten to the point where it’s too dangerous for the likes of Tadje Pogacar or Jonas Vindegaard to do all of the World Tour stage races that they’ve already won in the past if they want to compete in the Tour de France or one of the other grand tours.
There’s the other side of the coin – Primoz Roglic avoided some of the Tour warmups so that his exposure to crash risk was smaller, but then he crashed in the Tour itself, getting criticism that sitting out some of the earlier races might have compromised his reflexes.
However, the fact that so many of the top teams have an excess in terms of star power means that leaving on of their top competitors at home for one of the less significant events gives someone else on the roster the chance to lead the team.
Balancing the egos of all of those riders requires careful management.
So let’s look at some of the major events on the 2025 pro cycling calendar, as well as an overview of betting on cycling futures and a look at what you can choose on XBet.

^How to Bet on Cycling
The most popular cycling events for bettors are the three Grand Tours – the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a España.
Each of these events is split into stages, and each stage comes with unique challenges, such as time trials and mountain climbs in addition to more ordinary distance rides.
Whether you choose one of the Grand Tours or one of the shorter events – and the calendar features many one-day races in addition to the longer events listed above – you have several wagering options.
You can bet on the outright winner – the rider who will either win the race or the multi-stage event.
Tour De France
In the Tour De France, the leader in the general classification race, who wears the yellow jersey, will be the one you would pick.
Depending on the event, there are other awards as well that you can wager on.
In the Tour De France, there is the top sprinter (who wears a green jersey), the “King of the Mountains” – the best climber (who wears a white jersey with red dots), and the top young rider (who wears a white jersey).
Betting in the Tour De France
You can wager on any of those awards at the Tour De France, depending on the book.
You can also bet on the stage winner for each stage.
In the case of the Grand Tours, each day features a different stage, and each stage has a winner.
Depending on the book, you may also be able to wager on particular riders to finish in the Top 3 or the Top 5, for the whole event or just for individual stages.
You can also pick head-to-head wagers which involve picking which of two riders will finish higher in the overall race classification.
Depending on the book, you may also be able to find props for head-to-head outcomes in the other divisions.
Finally, there is the team race winner option.
Individual riders take part on teams, and the dynamics of the team play an important part.
Each team designates a leader – the one they think will have the best chance of winning in the general classification.
The jobs of the other teammates include everything from fending off challenges from leaders on other teams to swapping bikes out in case of a mechanical incident with the leader’s bike – their job is to give their leader the best chance of winning.
Sometimes this leads to drama within the team as multiple riders might think they have the best shot at the overall win.
The way this drama unfolds can cause teams to struggle as well.
There are also some more exotic prop bets that appear on some books – and the bigger the event, the more of these options tend to show up.
You can bet on the nationality of the winner in some cases.
You can also get action on the winning margin.
This has to do with the time gap between the overall winner and the next runner, for example.
In some books, this is also available for particular stages, such as the time trials.
One of the more entertaining parts of pro cycling events are the press statements, where irritation can break out at any time.
Some books offer such props as what words will be used most frequently in press statements and which riders will mention other riders.
For this last prop, it’s helpful to pay attention to personal rivalries in the sport.
At a more granular level, you can even wager on successful breakaways – those times when individual riders attempt to break away from the main leading group – called the peloton.
Sometimes a rider will do this to expand his or her lead in the general classification, but more often it happens when riders who are trailing the leader will break away to force the leader to work harder than he or she wanted to in a particular stage.
When pelotons finish as a group, the whole clump of riders receives the same official time for the stage.
With a breakaway, though, the lead riders have a chance to eat into the time lead of the top rider, and so the leader is forced to chase down the breakaway – or at least to try.
This is how the supporting team members can help, chasing the breakaway and using leverage to limit its speed, allowing the peloton to catch up more easily.
How to Find Value Bets for Cycling Events
Whether you’re new to betting on cycling or an old hand, the smaller competitions often offer more favorable odds.
This could be especially true if the rumors about top riders taking part in fewer smaller competitions turn out to be true.
This should increase the parity in quite a few of the races, making research more of a necessity but also making each rider’s value increase.
A lot of people new to cycling wagers start with the Grand Tours.
It’s true that these races come with a greater variety of betting choices, particularly in the prop bets.
However, the smaller races aren’t as important to the bookmakers because the betting volume is significantly lower, and as a result they can offer greater value.
In either case, it’s important to stay current with cycling news and the analysis that experts provide.
Some sportsbooks give out promotional bonuses to bring in more action for some events; when those pop up, those can add even more value to your wagering.
How Cycling Futures Work
Cycling futures work just like futures in any other sport.
Just like you can already find action on the team that will win Super Bowl LX next year or the team that will win the Stanley Cup in a few months, you can put money down on the winner of this summer’s Tour De France – and the other races on the calendar.
As of this writing, defending Tadej Pogacar is a heavy favorite (-180 or so, depending on the book).
Jonas Vingegaard (+225) and Remco Evenepoel (+800) round out the top three betting choices, but after those three the odds get long.
Primoz Roglic is the fourth choice on most books, coming in around +2500.
Races on XBet
XBet features betting action on the three Grand Tours and quite a few of the other tours and even some of the one-day events.
For the Grand Tours, they offer quite a few of the various props that we mentioned earlier, and their odds are competitive with the offerings of the other major books as well.
^Betting Favorites and Cycling Picks in 2025
Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard are the two big favorites at the multi-stage events, including the Grand Tours.
Obviously, you’ll want to watch the cycling news to see which events they plan to enter.
After those two, things get a bit interesting, so let’s take a look at some of the value options out there that have a chance of panning out.
Tom Pidcock in 2025
Tom Pidcock went from Ineos Grenadiers, the biggest UK team, to Q36.5, an upstart in the sport.
At the age of 25, he’s already won two mountain biking Olympic golds, but he’s also taken some heat as being a waste of talent.
Ineos Grenadiers had installed him as the face of the franchise, and the pressure that came with that seems to have wilted Pidcock a bit.
He didn’t do cyclocross this winter, instead focusing on training for 2025.
He definitely could pull off the win at one of the spring classics, such as Strade Bianche, Milano-Sanremo or Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
If Q36.5 gets a wild-card entry to the Vuelta a Espana, though, then things get interesting.
If he can pull off an early breakaway and then make that lead hold, he could come out of Spain with a win.
If this happens, and you’ve added Pidcock as a value pick, then you’ll walk away with a big stack of cash.
More Favorites in Cycling
Speaking of favorites, though, what is the next challenge for Pogacar?
He already has the Giro and the Tour De France trophies from last year.
He got the “triple crown” by winning the world championship as well – the first man to pull that off in 30 years.
One race where he might focus that isn’t a Grand Tour, though, is Paris-Roubaix, known for its menacing cobblestones.
If he takes the Tour De Flanders, where cobblestones also play a role, you might well see him add a bit of weight for stability and then show up for Paris-Roubaix as a relative value pick.
This event has chaos all over the place, as cobblestones can send bicycles crashing all over the road.
If he bides his time and waits to attack when those in front of him have fallen into a shambles, that could be a value win for him.
Women in Cycling
On the women’s side of the sport, don’t sleep on Chloe Dygert.
She has that Olympic gold medal and can step away from track racing.
For most of her career, she’s raced on the comparatively open roads of North America or the safe confines of velodromes.
She’ll have to learn how to handle herself in a peloton.
Racing with Canyon/SRAM, she will have the license to do what she wants.
She could deliver at Paris-Roubaix, just like Pogacar.
