The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, made up of a group of less than 100 international reporters, makes the picks for these awards. We have your 2020 Golden Globe odds in the top categories for film and television, as well as our own prediction.

Best Film Drama
- The Irishman 17/5
- Marriage Story 39/10
- Joker 4/1
- 1917 4/1
- The Two Popes 9/2
The Irishman is getting lots of buzz, but I’m going with Marriage Story, as Adam Driver’s skills on the screen show that he is much more than Kylo Ren, and Scarlett Johansson continues to demonstrate a virtuosity that goes well beyond Black Widow.
Best Actress (Film Drama)
- Renee Zellweger (Judy) 17/5
- Charlize Theron (Bombshell) 19/5
- Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story) 39/10
- Saoirse Ronan (Little Women) 9/2
- Cynthia Erivo (Harriet) 9/2
Even if Charlize Theron weren’t an elite actress, can you see the press voting for anyone other than a reporter playing in a story about a coverup?
Best Actor (Film Drama)
- Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) 82/25
- Adam Driver (Marriage Story) 19/5
- Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) 4/1
- Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) 9/2
- Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) 9/2
Heath Ledger might be the best Joker not named Jack Nicholson, but Phoenix’s rendition stays with you long after the credits have rolled.
Best Film Comedy/Musical
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 16/5
- Jojo Rabbit 39/10
- Knives Out 4/1
- Dolemite Is My Name 9/2
- Rocketman 9/2
Dolemite Is My Name is the best of these five movies, but it’s hard to get by that Tarantino PR machine, especially with Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie.
Best Actress (Comedy/Musical)
- Awkwafina (The Farewell) 16/5
- Ana de Armas (Knives Out) 39/10
- Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart) 4/1
- Emma Thompson (Late Night) 9/2
- Cate Blanchett (Where’d You Go Bernadette?) 9/2
Not sure how The Farewell isn’t a drama, but Awkwafina was gold in that film. If that film were a drama, then I’d go with Emma Thompson.
Best Actor (Comedy/Musical)
- Eddie Murphy (Dolemite Is My Name) 7/2
- Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time…) 37/10
- Taron Egerton (Rocketman) 4/1
- Daniel Craig (Knives Out) 9/2
- Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit) 9/2
Murphy in a landslide.
Best Supporting Actor (Film)
- Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time) 16/5
- Al Pacino (The Irishman) 4/1
- Joe Pesci (The Irishman) 4/1
- Tom Hanks (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) 9/2
- Anthony Hopkins (The Two Popes) 9/2
It’s hard to choose between Pesci and Pacino, which is why Pitt gets the nod here.
Best Director (Film)
- Bong Joon Ho (Parasite) 7/2
- Martin Scorsese (The Irishman) 19/5
- Quentin Tarantino (Once Upon a Time…) 4/1
- Sam Mendes (1917) 9/2
- Todd Phillips (Joker) 9/2
Bong Joon Ho is the favorite, but Sam Mendes makes for a smart sleeper.
Best Drama TV Series
- Succession 18/5
- The Crown 37/10
- The Morning Show 39/10
- Big Little Lies 9/2
- Killing Eve 9/2
Succession is the favorite in a year in which historical pieces are popular.
Best Actor (TV Drama)
- Brian Cox (Succession) 17/5
- Billy Porter (Pose) 37/10
- Tobias Menzies (The Crown) 4/1
- Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) 9/2
- Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) 9/2
No character actor is better than the venerable Brian Cox.
Best Actress (TV Drama)
- Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) 69/20
- Olivia Colman (The Crown) 71/20
- Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) 9/2
- Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) 9/2
- Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show) 9/2
Witherspoon is great, but Aniston is transcendent.
