Counter Strike is one of the most popular multiplayer first-person shooter video games of all time. Teams of counter-terrorists try to keep teams of terrorists from carrying out such plots as assassinations and bombings, or even hostage incidents. This game dates all the way back to 1999, with competitive play starting in 2001. Today, there are multiple eSports leagues offering teams a chance to play Counter Strike professionally. In the #HomeSweetHome league sponsored by eSports Vikings, SkinBaron and Midnite, teams are in first waves of group play. The 16 teams in this league are split into four double-elimination format groups. The first match for each team is best of 1 (so the scores are reported as points), with all subsequent matches are best of 3 (so the scores are reported as games won). The top two teams from each group advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket, with best of 3 matches. This whole process take place each week, moving from group play to playoffs each week, with $40,000 on the line — $30,000 for the winning team and $10,000 for the runner-up. Check out our preview for Tuesday’s matches as you consider your Counter Strike betting for the week.

Movistar Riders (1.62) vs Syman (2.2) — 5:50 am ET
Neither of these teams advanced out of group play in Week 1, but Movistar Riders is a fairly clear favorite according to the sports books. Neither team has been particularly dominant as of late, as Movistar Riders have won just two of five and four of ten. Syman has won two of five and five of ten. The teams have played seven times in the past, with Movistar Riders winning four and Syman winning three. Their most recent play came at the Cyber.Bet Cup, as Movistar Riders advanced, 2-0 on April 11.
That win was the last victory for Movistar Riders, as they then lost to Heretics, 2-0, at the Cyber.Bet Cup. Before that win, they had not win since an April 7 win over Hard Legion at the Cyber.Bet Cup. #HomeSweetHome Week 1 was not kind to Movistar Riders, who got drilled, 16-4, by Japaleno in their group opener and then got swept, 2-0, by Sprout in the Eliminator Game of their group.
Syman has not win since April 11, when they swept Nordavind, 2-0, at the Cyber.Bet Cup. They played closer than Movistar Riders in their Eliminator Game in Week 1 of #HomeSweetHome, losing by a 2-1 score to Spirit — who went all the way to the finals. Even so, Syman is viewed as an underdog here. Given that common result and the added value, I’m going with Syman in their opener of group play.
Prediction: Syman wins
Virtus.pro (1.87) vs Spirit (1.87) — 7:20 am ET
Virtus.pro finished second in their group last week but lost to BIG in the quarterfinals. Spirit rolled out of group play all the way to the Grand Final, losing to BIG but taking home $10,000 as the runner-up for the week. The two teams have played eight times overall, with Spirit taking the win five times. Both teams have won three of their last five matches, but Spirit has won six of their last ten, while Virtus.pro has won just four times.
In last week’s #HomeSweetHome opener, Virtus.pro lost their first group match but then won the Elimination Game, 2-0, and the Decider, 2-1, sending Gambit Youngster home. However, they ran into trouble against BIG, losing, 2-0. Spirit lost their opener in group play last week, needing to win the Elimination Game and the Decider to make the playoff round, and they kept winning all the way to the Grand Final. With both teams losing to the eventual champion, it makes sense that they would have even odds this week. However, I like Spirit to edge out Virtus.pro for the group play opener win.
Prediction: Spirit wins
