With the winding down of live sports due to the coronavirus, the sports betting community has taken a greater interest in eSports, including the various professional League of Legends leagues. The Korean league (LCK) consists of ten teams, competing in a double round-robin group stage. The five teams with the best records will go on to the Spring Playoffs. The bottom two teams are at risk of relegation in the Summer Promotion.
eSports has become the focus of the sports betting world, and one of the most widely competitive video game leagues is the League of Legends Pro League (LPL), currently in its ninth year in China. The League of Legends Development League (LDL) is a training league for players who could possibly move up to play in the LPL. For the Spring 2020 league, the LDL will have 26 teams, 17 as academy teams for LPL teams and nine as independent teams. The league uses a Swiss system format with five rounds overall, and matches are best of three. So, without further ado let’s check the League of Legends Betting Odds for Wednesday, April 15th
eSports: League of Legends LCK Matches: April 15
Standings (through April 14)
- Gen.G 13-4
- DragonX 13-4
- T1 13-4
- KT Rolster 10-7
- DAMWON Gaming 8-9
- Afreeca Freecs 7-10
- APK Prince 6-11
- Hanwha Life Esports 6-11
- SANDBOX Gaming 5-12
- Griffin 4-13
Gen.G (1.418) vs KT Rolster (2.54) (2:00 am ET)
These two teams have met 16 times in the past, with a fairly even rivalry. KT Rolster has won nine times, while Gen.G has won seven. Both teams also have an even record in recent play, as they both come in having won three of five and eight of ten.
Gen.G has won the last two meetings between these teams, including a 2-1 win in the first meeting of the Spring 2020 Group Stage schedule. KT Rolster has not beaten Gen.G since June 2019. Gen.G lost to Hanwha Life Esports, currently the eighth-place team in the standings, by a 2-1 margin. Even so, they remain the favorites given their win over KT Rolster earlier this season.
KT Rolster has won two matches in a row, taking down T1 and SANDBOX Gaming. SANDBOX is not a strong team, but T1 is tied with Gen.G for the lead in the LCK standings. Given their strong play and the value they offer, I’m going with KT Rolster here.
League of Legends Betting Prediction: KT Rolster wins, 2-1.
Afreeca Freecs (4.35) vs T1 (1.19) (5:00 am ET)
Afreeca Freecs comes in as the heavy underdog — but also as the sixth-place team in the LCK standings, so they have plenty of motivation to take down one of the three teams tied with a 13-4 record. The two sides have played 16 times, with Afreeca Freecs picking up nine of the wins. However, Afreeca Freecs has struggled mightily lately, going winless in their last five matches and having just two wins in their last ten. T1 has played solidly, winning four of five and eight of ten. Even so, Afreeca Freecs did win the first meeting in the Spring 2020 season, 2-1, on March 5.
T1 needs to rebound from a 2-0 loss to KT Rolster a week ago. Afreeca Freecs lost their last match, a 2-1 nailbiter against DragonX. Given the value that the Freecs present, though, I’m going to bet on two down weeks in a row for T1 since the Freecs have had T1’s number in the past.
DAMWON Gaming (1.284) vs SANDBOX Gaming (3.028) (8:00 am ET)
DAMWON Gaming is clinging to fifth place in the LCK standings, while SANDBOX Gaming is way down the table in ninth. This will be their seventh matchup overall, with DAMWON having won four of the first six. However, SANDBOX won the first meeting in the Spring 2020 season, rolling to a 2-0 sweep on February 23.
DAMWON Gaming has not won since April 5, when they beat T1. Since then, they have lost to Griffin and DragonX. DragonX is in second place, but Griffin is in dead last. SANDBOX Gaming has not won a game since April 4, getting swept by T1 and KT Rolster. They did beat Hanwha Life Esports, 2-1, before those two losses. Given those two records, DAMWON seems to have the edge.
League of Legends Betting Prediction: DAMWON Gaming wins, 2-1.
