eSports: League of Legends LDL Matches: April 15

Written by on April 14, 2020

eSports has become the focus of the sports betting world, and one of the most widely competitive video game leagues is the League of Legends Pro League (LPL), currently in its ninth year in China. The League of Legends Development League (LDL) is a training league for players who could possibly move up to play in the LPL. For the Spring 2020 league, the LDL will have 26 teams, 17 as academy teams for LPL teams and nine as independent teams. The league uses a Swiss system format with five rounds overall, and matches are best of three. Let’s check the League of Legends Odds for some of the matches.

Triumphant Song Gaming vs Invictus Gaming Young (3:00 am ET)

Invictus Gaming Young won the LDL 2019 Summer Playoffs, picking up a cool 500,000 yen in the process. They finished second in the Summer standings, going 18-6 in their matches, finishing behind Vici Gaming Potential. However, Vici settled for fifth place in the Summer Playoffs, while Invictus swept all the way to a title.

Triumphant Song Gaming finished 18th out of 25 teams in the Summer 2019 standings, with a match record of 9-15. On that basis (and given that Invictus is also leading the first division with their LPL team), I’m taking Invictus here too.

Prediction: Invictus wins, 2-0.

87 vs WanZhen Esports Club (3:00 am ET)

87 missed the playoffs by a whisker in the 2019 Summer season. Their 12-12 record left them a game behind Suning-S, in 15th place overall. They take on WanZhen Esports Club, a newcomer to the LDL. I wouldn’t put a ton of money down on a newcomer or a team that couldn’t crack the postseason in their last league, but if you’re dead set on this match, I would pick the side that has experience in the league.

Prediction: 87 wins, 2-1.

Suning-S vs All Combo (5:00 am ET)

Suning-S was the third-place finisher in the 2019 Summer Playoffs in the LDL, collecting 50,000 yen as their prize. That made for a tremendous run, given that the team had barely qualified for the playoffs in the Summer Season. They finished with a match record of 13-11, tied with Oh My Dream, but they advanced because of a 32-26 game record, one more win than Oh My Dream had posted, at 31-25. All Combo makes their debut appearance in LDL play this season.

Prediction: Suning-S wins, 2-0.

LinGan e-Sports vs Legend Esport Gaming (5:00 am ET)

These two teams finished 11th and 12th in the 2019 Summer Playoffs. Given that LinGan finished sixth in the Summer Season and Legend finished tenth, that was a bit of a disappointment, but 2 ½ games only separated the fourth-place team from the twelfth-place Suning-S side. This is an even match, but I like LinGan here as they beat out Legend in the standings last year.

Prediction: LinGan wins, 2-1.
