With the winding down of live sports due to the coronavirus, the sports betting community has taken a greater interest in eSports, including the various professional League of Legends leagues. The Korean league (LCK) consists of ten teams, competing in a double round-robin group stage. The five teams with the best records will go on to the Spring Playoffs. The bottom two teams are at risk of relegation in the Summer Promotion. Today we will take a look at the last match of the regular season, as KT Rolster meets DAMWON Gaming on Saturday. This matchup features the fourth- and fifth-place teams in the LCK Spring 2020 standings. No matter how this turns out, the two teams will face each other in the opening round of the playoffs, which take place in a “king of the mountain” format. The fourth- and fifth-place teams play in the first round, with the winner going to face the third-place team. That winner faces the second-place team, with the first-place team getting a bye all the way to the finals. Even so, this gives the two sides an opportunity to tune up their games before the playoffs.
These two teams have met six times overall, and DAMWON Gaming has dominated the series, winning five of those six matches. However, KT Rolster won the most recent matchup, holding on for a 2-1 win in the first meeting between the sides in the LCK Spring 2020 schedule.
KT Rolster has split their last four matches, as they beat APK Prince before beating T1 and SANDBOX Gaming. However, they lost on April 15th to Gen.G, 2-1. There’s no shame in losing to the league leaders, and the fact that the match went three games shows the effort that KT Rolster brought to the matchup.
DAMWON Gaming has also split their last four matches, as they beat T1 on May 4 before losing to Griffin and DragonX. They rebounded with a 2-1 win over SANDBOX Gaming on April 15. However, having to go three games with one of the lower teams in the standings makes this win less impressive. So given recent form, I predict KT Rolster to make it two wins in a row in their rivalry over DAMWON Gaming.
