League of Legends League Championship Series Matches: April 7 2020

Written by on April 6, 2020

League of Legends is a video game that Riot Games designed and features a multiplayer online battle arena format. The game was inspired by Defense of the Ancients, a modification of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Within the game, players take on the role of a “champion” who has unique strengths and fight against a team that has other champions, either controlled by other players or by computers. Each team is trying to reach and destroy the “Nexus” that the other team has set up. Teams usually set up a series of defense mechanisms to protect their base, at the center of which lies the Nexus. The League of Legends League Championship Series is a professional gaming league that is entering its third season, and we are just at the beginning of the spring playoffs. Let’s take a look at the teams in the league along with an online betting preview of the match on April 7, pitting FlyQuest against the Golden Guardians in the first round of the losers’ bracket. The tournament is double-elimination, which means that the winner of this match is still alive to come all the way back and take the title.

  • Cloud 9 d. 100 Thieves, 3-0 (April 5)

Key Stats

The four ratios to take a look at with respect to choosing a side are Kill:Death (K:D), gold spend differential (GSD), first baron rate (FBN%) and jungle control (JNG%). The first metric is tied very closely to win rate, while the others are also important to consider. Here are the stats for FlyQuest and Golden Guardians courtesy of Oracle’s Elixir.

Team / K:D / GSD / FBN% / JNG%
  • FlyQuest 0.96 4.4% 32% 48.3%
  • Golden Guardians 0.71 -3.3% 47% 48.3%

This match will also take place in a best-of-five format. The fantasy website numberFire ran a series of simulations of the matchup, with FlyQuest winning 65 percent of the time. In a fifth of the simulations, FlyQuest won 3-0, while the most common outcome is FlyQuest winning in four. FlyQuest was in second place in the standings at the spring split, after every team had played each other one time.

The two teams split their regular season matches, including the regular season finale, which was the first played under quarantine conditions. Golden Guardians prevailed, giving themselves new life into the postseason. It is important to consider that FlyQuest has a lot of top-lane swaps. Solo came on board late in the season, and he played three times in a row before giving way for V1per in that matchup against Golden Guardians in the regular season finale.

Looking for players to target in fantasy play? PowerOfEvil (FlyQuest) was put on the third LCS All-Pro Team after this split, along with the team’s jungler, Santorin. IgNar, their support, was put on the second team. PowerOfEvil went only 1/4/1 (kills/deaths/assists) in that loss to Golden Guardians but was 5/0/4 in the teams’ first match, which FlyQuest won. He matches up well with Goldenglue well in the mid lane. PowerOfEvil was tops in the split in terms of creep score per minute at 9.22.

So overall, I would take FlyQuest to win straight up, and I might consider PowerOfEvil if I’m going to wager on MVP picks as well. A dark horse MVP pick from Golden Guardians might be FBI, who causes more damage per minute and has a better KDA than WildTurtle, the second-best player on FlyQuest.
