2018 TOUR Championship Odds & Picks

Written by on September 19, 2018

In the Professional Golf Association, the FedExCup Playoffs come to an end this weekend as the 2018 TOUR Championship unfolds at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club. The field consists of just 30 players who have gained eligibility on the basis of FedExCup points picked up through the course of the year. This tournament is the last of a series of four events that have winnowed the field down. If any of the top five FedExCup point leaders also win this tournament, they win the FedExCup, but it is possible for the FedExCup champion and the TOUR Championship winner to be two different people. Either way, the winner of this tournament gets a 3-year exemption for all PGA Tour events. Xander Schauffele is the defending champion, having edged out Justin Thomas by one stroke at this same course, which has hosted the TOUR Championship since 2004. Take a look at our 2018 TOUR Championship odds suggestions for this climax to the FedExCup Playoffs.

Even though Dustin Johnson does not represent a lot of value, but he is playing golf better than anyone else right now. He has finished in double digits below par in five of his last six tournaments, and when he makes the cut, he generally is near the top of the leaderboard when the last round comes to an end. The TOUR Championship has been good to him as well, as he has three top-six finishes in his last four appearances. Jon Rahm is either feast or famine right now, so it’s worth asking if the wear and tear of the long season are taking their toll on him. He has either missed the cut altogether or finished past the top 25 in four of his last seven tournaments. However, in significant tournaments, he tends to play up, whether it’s a major or another big event. In the TOUR Championship last year, he finished seventh in his debut. So if you want some value on the big stage, he could be the one to back. Rory McIlroy has quietly snuck back into the top tier of golfers, with four top-eight finishes in his last six tournaments, and finishes at -10 or better in his last two events. He won this tournament two years ago, the last time he took part, and he has three top-ten finishes in his last four tournaments. Tiger Woods is once again on our list after he came in sixth a week ago, That gave him four top-six finishes in his last seven tournaments, and he has finished at -10 or better in three of those tournaments. He has started to put together longer streaks of quality golf at tournaments, and he will break through eventually. He holds this tournament record at -23, and he has finished second place four times. Webb Simpson put up a -17 score at the BMW Championship, good for sixth place, giving him two top-10 finishes in his last four tournaments. At the TOUR Championship, he has two top-five finishes in five appearances overall. His consistency has been building, and he could emerge from this elite field to win.
