We’re three weeks away from the 2020 Masters, moved to the fall thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau is the favorite to win a major for the first time in his career, thanks to his prowess with the driver and his six-stroke win at Winged Foot in the last major. Dustin Johnson has not yet returned to active play thanks to a positive COVID-19 test, announced on October 13, so while he could return to play before the Masters, it will be interesting to see how much practice he can get. Let’s take a look at the latest sports betting odds for the contenders (+10000 odds and better) as well as updates on some of the contenders so you can set down your bets against their PGA betting odds.

Bryson DeChambeau posted a photo on Instagram from his launch monitor on Friday, showing his celebration of the first time he had had a carry of more than 400 yards with his driver. He actually hit the ball 403.1 yards in the air, at a speed of 211 miles per hour (which is about how fast an Indy race car travels). The ball hung in the air for 8.2 seconds. DeChambeau had indicated since he came back packed with muscle that he was going for a 400+ yard drive. He has been testing a 48-inch driver — and he didn’t even use that for this mammoth drive. If he can control his direction, he would be able to dominate play at Augusta National. In 2019, he averaged 322 yards per drive — but he wasn’t as big then as he is now, and he wasn’t hitting the bombs then that he is now.
Tiger Woods took a four-month break after missing the cut at the U.S. Open to work on his game. He returned this weekend for the Zozo Championship, which he won in 2019 — and he finished T72, with a +2 round on Sunday and a -1 score for the tournament. He has yet to indicate whether he will use the Houston Open as a warmup. The temperatures in Augusta in November can fall into the low forties, so an older player with several back surgeries in his past might struggle. The colder temperatures and the prevailing north winds can make the course play significantly longer. These changes could combine to make a title defense even more difficult for Tiger.
Patrick Cantlay picked up the win this weekend at the Zozo Championship, shooting a 65 on Sunday to slide past Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas and take the title. On Sunday, his putter was especially impressive, as he sank nine birdie putts, three of them 15 feet or longer, needing just 24 points on the day, his lowest number in the four days of the tournament. It also helped that he was third from tee to green. He put up a 32 on the front nine on Sunday and then had four birdies in the first six holes on the back. He finished with a birdie and two pars, edging Thomas and Rahm out. Cantlay had only one top ten since the Memorial Tournament, but he is playing solid golf at just the right time, on the cusp of the Masters.
