Who Will Take Home the Trophy? Unveiling the Travelers Championship Odds

Mental and physical fatigue are starting to take their toll on the PGA Tour. There was perhaps no better sign of this than Rory McIlroy’s utter collapse at the U.S. Open last week, where he missed makeable par putts on #16 and #18 – with the last miss coming on a four-foot par putt that would have gotten him at least a playoff with eventual champion Bryson DeChambeau. Will this affect the PGA Odds?

This week we have the eighth signature event of the 2024 campaign, a $20 million no-cut event. This field of 71 altered slightly on Monday when McIlroy withdrew, saying he would take a multi week break from the sport to recharge.

Let’s take a look at the updated Travelers Championship betting odds for this week’s tournament, the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, as well as our suggestions for players to wager as outright winners and/or top three finishers.

PGA Odds to Win the Travelers Championship 2024

Russell Henley

Henley has four top-20 finishes in six starts at the Travelers. In his last five starts in 2024, Henley is gaining 2 ½ strokes with his putter and another four from tee to green. That combined six strokes is a solid number against top fields. TPC River Highlands emphasizes accuracy with the wedge and a locked-in putting game. Russell is one of the top wedge players in the PGA today, and he was tops in the field in strokes gained (putting) at Pinehurst No. 2 last week.

Jordan Spieth

Spieth made the cut at the U.S. Open, but his putting was so bad that it drew the sympathy of broadcasters by the final round. He lost a total of seven strokes with his putter alone. It’s not like putting is a new problem for him, either – his decline on the green is one of the top reasons why Spieth’s onslaught against majors early in his career has come to a complete halt. Spieth does have a tournament win at TPC River Highlands, but that came back in 2017, and he has only won two tournaments since then. He is ranked #52 on the FedExCup standings, and he is not guaranteed to get past the first playoff round at this point.

Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler got his worst finish of, 2024 at the U.S. Open, and having the Travelers one week later means having to bounce back and rise up to the top of the game again. This tournament only has 72 players, and everyone is guaranteed all four rounds. Scheffler looked like he was also showing signs of fatigue this week. Can he bounce back on a few days’ rest?

Ludvig Aberg

Aberg left a lot on the table at Pinehurst No. 2 this week, but his presence on the leaderboard as late as Sunday was still impressive. On short golf courses that emphasize positional play, Aberg’s track record is fairly solid. He got to win at Sea Island last year, and he also contended in 2024 at Harbour Town, TPC Sawgrass, and Pebble Beach. Those are other courses that keep a lid on distance, focusing more on elite putting and wedge play.

Patrick Cantlay

Cantlay had the best major finish of his PGA career at the U.S. Open this past weekend, gaining strokes in all four of the major categories. TPC River Highlands is one of his favorite courses, where he has seven top-25 finishes over nine starts and came in fourth a year ago.

Brian Harman

Harman has six top-ten results in a dozen starts at TPC River Highlands, including three straight top-tens. At the U.S. Open, he came in 21st, and his best result of 2024 came at TPC Sawgrass, which is a short, positional course, much like the one he will see this weekend.

Sepp Straka

Straka just struck the ball well at Pinehurst No. 2, and he’s looking for his third career PGA Tour win on a course that will have much softer landing surfaces on and around the greens. Straka’s elite wedge and pinpoint driving will come in handy at TPC River Highlands. Based on how well he’s played at Harbour Town, TPC Sawgrass, and TPC Deere Run, there’s nothing stopping Straka from challenging here.
