The Presidents Cup is a biennial golf competition between a team from the United States and an International Team comprised of the rest of the world except for Europe.
European golfers have a similar competition against American golfers – the Ryder Cup. This year, Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal will host the tournament, which is held according to match play rules, just like the Ryder Cup.
Each team has 12 players and a captain (who can designate himself as a player, but generally is an older golf figure who does not play).
He chooses the pairs for the doubles events. The first three days consist of foursome and four-ball doubles contests, and the fourth day contains 12 singles matches, with a possible total of 30 points available.
The team that wins 15 ½ points takes the trophy; if both teams win 15 points, the previous winning team retains the trophy.
Let’s take a look at the rosters and our sports betting thoughts on the tournament.

Which team will win?
President Cup Lines: U.S. -265 / Rest of the World +250 / Draw +1350
The U.S. team has won nine straight Presidents Cups since 2003, when the two sides played to a draw.
The last event, at Quail Hollow in 2022, saw the U.S. win 17 ½-12 ½. If you look down at the bottom third of these lineups, though, the Internationals have a definite edge.
Brian Harman hasn’t cracked the top 20 of any tournament since the Travelers Championship in June, and Max Homa hasn’t done it since the Wells Fargo Championship in May.
Keegan Bradley won the BMW Championship, but other than that, his 2024 golf results have been pretty poor.
The Internationals have the likes of Si Woo Kim and Min Woo Lee down low on their roster, so if their top golfers – Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama – can perform well, then the Internationals definitely have a shot.
Smart value bet is backing Internationals for their first win since 1998, aided by a partisan Canadian crowd at Royal Montreal.

Russell Henley has gained strokes on approach in twelve tournaments in a row.
He hasn’t lost strokes on approach since March at the Players Championship. So his irons are treating him well, and that should pay off on a course like Royal Montreal.
Putting may not go his way due to the green surface here, but Henley will get his irons close to the hole.
Despite withdrawing from the BMW Championship, Hideki Matsuyama’s recent tournaments have been successful, with a T9 at the TOUR Championship, a win at FedEx St. Jude, and a T3 at the Olympic golf tournament.
Collin Morikawa has seven top-ten finishes in 15 tournaments since the Masters.
In 13 of those tournaments, he has gained strokes on approach. He drives accurately, so his approach shots will come out of the fairway, and his mid-iron work is solid.
^Golfers Trending Downward
Mackenzie Hughes was a surprise pick for the Internationals. He has lost strokes on approach in 13 of his last 20 tournaments.
He will probably appear in the alternate-shot format so that the iron play won’t be as much of a factor.
His short game is elite, but I wouldn’t pick him in Sunday singles.
Min Woo Lee is stronger on courses where long, straight driving is key and iron play isn’t as important.
Here, Royal Montreal doesn’t require length off the tee but does require solid iron play. The poor skill set match could mean Lee doesn’t do as well here.
Wyndham Clark is all about going big off the tee, which is not how Royal Montreal is built.
His iron play has improved over the last 18 months, but it is still inconsistent. He’s another player to fade, especially on Sunday.
