We’re just a couple weeks away from an unusual Masters, with the typical spring tournament moved to November due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grounds crew has been working overtime to get the course in shape for the tournament despite the different weather conditions; we can expect a lot more in the way of northerly winds and chilly temperatures, which will reduce driving distances and potentially add some frustration for golfers used to a very different Augusta National.
Let’s look at the updated Masters odds for the contenders (odds of +10000 or better) as you consider your sports betting for the last major of 2020.

Dustin Johnson will come in off a four-week break after having had to withdraw from the CJ Cup and the Zozo Championship because of a positive COVID-19 test. He did put together an amazing stretch in 2020, ending with his win at East Lake for the Tour Championship/FedEx Cup. At the 2019 Masters, he was the runner-up, and he has four consecutive top-ten finishes at Augusta National. He’s still offering a good bit of value due to that COVID test.
Jon Rahm should benefit if the conditions at the Masters are drier and cooler than usual, which would make getting a low score more difficult than usual. He has the shotmaking to stay in the tight fairways and get optimal approaches to greens. His putting and power combination makes him a natural for Augusta, as long as he can keep up with DeChambeau.
Bryson DeChambeau won the U.S. Open at Winged Foot by six shots, despite playing on a course known for sticky rough. Augusta National has rough that is much more forgiving, and so if he is dropping 400-yard bombs off the tee, he could run away with the tournament. It will be interesting to see what trees get added to the course over the next week. He is the only player on the PGA Tour averaging more than one stroke gained per round off the tee (1.3, to be exact). He averaged 363 yards off the tee at the Shiners Hospitals for Children Open. So he could basically eliminate long- and even medium-iron play from his game at Augusta. He’s the favorite for a reason, but I’m not sure he’s worth the lack of value, because he still has to chip and putt. But who wouldn’t jump at the chance to leave irons 3-6 in the bag, except possibly on par-3 tee boxes?
Rory McIlroy is looking to burnish his legacy even more. He is one of just 29 golfers who have won four majors. However, he has not won all four of the major tournaments. There are only five golfers who have ever done that: Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gene Sarazen, Gary Player and Tiger Woods. Becoming the sixth person in that elite group would be just another step up for one of golf’s all-time greats.
Collin Morikawa is a terrific player, as he showed at the PGA Championship at Harding Park. Winning two in one year, though, would show that he is more than a one-major wonder, and he has the shotmaking skills to bring it home. If he’s mentally strong enough, pulling off two majors in 2020 would be incredible.
