Updated 2019 World Series Odds – February 15th

We’re about six weeks away from Opening Day in Major League Baseball, and for MLB betting enthusiasts, one of the most popular futures wagers in the national pastime is a pick for this fall’s World Series champion. The top three teams on the odds to win the 2019 World Series right now come from the American League, as the Yankees, Red Sox and Astros are all popular choices — and should be, given the talent they still have. We have the full odds list for you as well as our thoughts on some of the franchises.

We’ll get to some of the favorites in a minute, but let’s start with two sleepers — the White Sox and the Giants. Their status has a lot to with the fact that some of the sport’s top free agents, including Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, still haven’t signed anywhere. The White Sox have signed Jon Jay, one of Machado’s best friends, and also traded for his brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso, hoping that he would listen to their offer and come play on the South Side with them. They also signed Ivan Nova to bolster a rotation that already has a terrific young arm in Carlos Rodon. Given that the Cleveland Indians may be looking at a down year in the American League Central, the White Sox could move up. The Giants have also pushed hard at Bryce Harper for a short-term deal, thinking that they can catch the Dodgers in the National League West, as the Dodgers may have a hangover after losing two straight Fall Classics. Another sleeper is Toronto. They’ll have the rookie campaign from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and they have two solid starting pitchers in Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez. Can they stay around with the Yankees and Boston in the division — and with Tampa Bay pushing up from the bottom? Speaking of the Yankees, it’s a little hard to understand why they are the favorite, unless bettors are just going on reputation. They haven’t done much in the offseason, as they didn’t sign either of the two signature free agents. They did trade for James Paxton and added D.J. LeMahieu, Zack Britton and Adam Ottavino (who will become the first Yankee ever to wear the number zero). They also got Troy Tulowitzki off the Blue Jays’ scrap heap. So I’d be careful before I dumped a bunch of money on the Pinstripes. The Philadelphia Phillies pulled off a big deal to add All-Star backstop J.T. Realmuto, and they have Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta in a stout rotation. The Marlins got Jorge Alfaro in return, as the neverending rebuilding project in Miami gets another player. The Phillies also sent prospect Sixto Sanchez to Miami, and since the Marlins won’t pay Sanchez what he is worth in a few years, at least they can trade him for more rebuilding chips. Boston and Houston didn’t do much retooling of their rosters, but they are so stacked with talent that they really didn’t need to. These two franchises squared off in the 2018 American League Championship Series, and unless Boston’s bullpen falls apart this year, that’s my pick to appear as the two teams in that round of the postseason again.
