Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets MLB Betting Preview

When a team makes it clear at the start of the year that they are in a rebuilding phase, it’s usually a sign that things are probably not going to go very well for them in the coming season. That makes the Atlanta Braves’ MLB Betting season all the more surprising, and the moves they are making now suggest that they feel they still have a shot at the NL East. The Braves have an incredibly important 3-games series against the division leading Mets coming this weekend. Game 2 of that set will be in New York on Saturday.

The Braves (29-31) head into this weekend just 2.5 games back of the division leading Mets. Both of the details contained in that statement are a surprise, as it was just assumed that the Washington Nationals would have the division sewn up pretty early. They have struggled, though, and Atlanta has played a whole lot better than anyone expected. Things would be even brighter for the Braves right now were it not for a bullpen that has gassed far too many games this season. Atlanta is looking to tighten that up, and have brought in David Aardsma to try and add some stability to the relief staff. It’s tough to say if that will have the desired effect, or if the fans in Atlanta will actually buy the managements claims of trying to be competitive this year. One guy who has been incredibly competitive for the Braves this season is Shelby Miller (5-2, 1.84 ERA). He will get the start for Atlanta on Saturday. You have to wonder where the Mets (32-29) would be if they had not got off to such a fantastic start to the season. That they are at the top of the NL East is a testament to the strong start that they made, as well as the fact that the Washington Nationals have gone into the tank again. Since sweeping the Phillies back towards the end of May, the Mets have failed to win 4 straight series, the majority of which came against teams that were certainly there for the beating. Their starting pitching has not been as solid as it should be in recent weeks, which helps account for their 4-6 record over the past 10 games. Jacob deGrom (7-4, 2.42 ERA) will get the start for the Mets on Saturday, and will be looking to extend his 5-game unbeaten streak (4-0) to 6. Jacob deGrom

Neither of these teams are exactly setting the world on fire, but the Braves always seem to lift their game with Shelby Miller on the mound. It is for that reason that I will be going with Atlanta in this one.
