MLB Betting Picks to Parlay This Weekend (August 5-6)

Written by on August 4, 2017

The baseball calendar has turned to August. The Yankees and Red Sox are making this a throwback summer by clashing for the American League East title. The Washington Nationals have cleaned up their bullpen issues. The Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their rotation with the addition of starter Yu Darvish. Did your team get stronger at the trade deadline? Or are they reloading for next year? No matter where your team is headed, the MLB betting picks to parlay this weekend are pretty cool. Be sure to check out the latest odds and lines for MLB for more games as well.

MLB Betting Picks to Parlay This Weekend Action (August 5-6)

Saturday Game #1

N.Y. Yankees at Cleveland Indians

When: Saturday, August 5th. 7:10pm ET Where: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio TV: MLBN (out-of-market only) / YES (NY) / SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland) Radio: WFAN 660 (NY) / WTAM 1100 (Cleveland) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Jaime Garcia (5-7, 4.29 ERA) (NY) vs Trevor Bauer (9-8, 5.25 ERA) (CLE) The Yankees just picked up Jaime Garcia at the trade deadline, and this will be his first start for the Pinstripes. Garcia had spent the first four months of 2017 with Atlanta before coming over to Minnesota. However, he only started once for the Twins — a 6 ⅔-inning effort in which he held Oakland to three runs on three hits. Aaron Judge should be back in the starting lineup this weekend after getting a day off to try and break out of an 11-for- 67 streak that has plagued him since he won the Home Run Derby. Matt Holliday should also be in the lineup despite some hitting woes. The Tribe will start Trevor Bauer, who has made some real strides in improving this season. In his last start, he permitted just a single run on seven hits in eight solid innings. His career record against the Yankees is not great (1-4, 5.34 ERA, 6 GS), but incorporating the knuckle curveball has helped him keep hitters off balance. Given the solid streak that Bauer has been on, I like the Indians to win at home.

Saturday Game #2

Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins

When: Saturday, August 5th. 7:10pm ET Where: Petco Park, San Diego, California TV: FSSW (Texas) / FSNO (Minnesota) Radio: 105.3 The Fan (Texas) / Go 96.3 (Minnesota) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Cole Hamels (5-1, 4.01 ERA) (TEX) vs Kyle Gibson (6-8, 6.08 ERA) (MIN) Cole Hamels set a season best in strikeouts in his last start against Baltimore, but a shaky bullpen and a lack of offensive support brought him a no-decision. Hamels has not pitched well against the Twins in the past, posting a career 6.35 ERA and permitting opposing batters to hit .300. However, among the current Twins, only Miguel Sano and Eduardo Escobar have taken him deep. Kyle Gibson will start for the Twins in his first action since July 22, a solid game that featured 7 ⅓ innings of three-run baseball, although he then went down to the minors. Before that, he had put together a 2-2 record and a 6.00 ERA in July. Shin-Soo Choo, Robinson Chirinos, Elvis Andrus and Mike Napoli have all hit home runs off Gibson. I like the Ranger bats to continue their relative awakening from Thursday and ride Hamels’ arm to a win.

Are the White Sox a safe MLB betting pick to parlay on this weekend?

Sunday Game #1

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox

When: Sunday, August 6th. 1:35pm ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts TV: CSN-C (Chicago) / NESN (Boston) Radio: WLS 890 (Chicago) / 103.7 FM (Boston) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Mike Pelfrey (3-9, 5.04 ERA) (CHI) vs Doug Fister (1-5, 5.18 ERA) (BOS) Doug Fister finally showed why the Red Sox had gone after him on Monday night, as his sinker finally started sinking for him — and he permitted just two runs on five hits over 7 ⅔ innings as the Red Sox took down the Cleveland Indians. The Red Sox are clinging to a ½-game lead in the American League East at this writing and need a big series against the White Sox to create some distance. Chicago will send Mike Pelfrey to the hill. He did make it to the sixth inning on Tuesday for the first time in six weeks, but he also permitted six runs — a season worst — against the Toronto Blue Jays. Mookie Betts (.364), Mitch Moreland (1 HR, 4 RBI) and Jackie Bradley Jr. (.667) have all hit Pelfrey well in the past, and I like Boston to win on Sunday behind their offense and another strong start from Fister.

Sunday Game #2

Toronto Blue Jays at Houston Astros

When: Sunday, August 6th. 1:35pm ET Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas TV: SNET (Toronto) / ATT SportsNet-SW (Houston) Radio: SN590 (Toronto) / KBME 790 (Houston) Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Betting Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Marcus Stroman (10-5, 3.19 ERA) (TOR) vs Mike Fiers (7-6, 3.97 ERA) (HOU) Marcus Stroman has a solid career record against Houston (2-1, 3.09 ERA, 4 GS). His last time out was a little off his usual mark as he permitted four runs against the Chicago White Sox. Josh Reddick (.600, 1 HR, 1 RBI) and Jake Marisnick (.667) have had some success against Stroman in the past. Mike Fiers just saw these Blue Jays on Monday, going 6 ⅓ innings and getting shelled for six runs, a season high. In his 11 starts before that, he had posted a 6-3 record with a combined 2.63 ERA. Josh Donaldson (.333, 1 HR, 4 RBI), Russell Martin (.333, 1 HR, 1 RBI) and Kendrys Morales (.417, 2 RBI) have all hit Fiers well. I like Stroman to outpitch Fiers and lead Toronto to the win.
