Blue Jays vs. Rangers: Great Match Without Clear Baseball Betting Favorite

Written by on August 25, 2015

With the American League Wild Card race so tight, it feels as though every game takes on a whole new level of significance. No baseball betting series played this week is likely to be as big as the one that sees the Toronto Blue Jays head to Texas to face the Rangers. These two teams are in possession of the 2 Wild Card spots, but that could change depending on how this series goes. Game 2 of 3 will go on Wednesday night.

Toronto vs. Texas MLB Game Info

Date/Time: Wednesday, August 26th, 8:05 PM Location: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, TX TV: FSSW Radio: 105.3 The Fan Opening line: Toronto -165 The playoffs looked like a distant dream for the Toronto Blue Jays (69-55) heading into the trade deadline, but a few blockbuster deals have totally transformed this team into a winner. They have gone an astonishing 16-4 in the month of August, and have taken leapt over a number of teams into a playoff spot. They are tied with the Yankees for the lead in the AL East, but look like the favorites to win it coming down the stretch. The moves that they made at the deadline addressed all of their needs, and they have looked pretty much unbeatable ever since. This series against the Rangers will be a real test, as they will be facing a team who have followed a similar trajectory over the past few weeks. David Price (12-4, 2.40 ERA) has a 3-0 record in his 4 starts with the Jays since coming over from Detroit. He will get the start on Wednesday. The Texas Rangers (64-59) made a major score of their own at the deadline, winning the sweepstakes to land Cole Hamel from the Phillies. As great a deal as that was, the feeling was that it was a move to help the Rangers next season. It, too, has paid instant dividends, though, as the Rangers are now in the final Wild Card spot, as well as being well within reach of the AL West division lead. They are just 3.5 games off the pace being set by the Houston Astros, and with the Angels falling off, it looks as though the division might be a 2-horse race coming down the stretch. The Rangers are 8-2 in their last 10 games, and now have Derek Holland back in the starting rotation after coming off the DL. Colby Lewis (14-5, 4.29 ERA) will get the start as he looks to win his third straight game.

Key Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Toronto’s last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Toronto’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Texas
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Texas’s last 5 games when playing at home against Toronto
  • Texas is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games at home
This has the makings of a truly great series, and one that really could go either way. While the Rangers have the home field edge, I think it’ll be the Jays who come away with the win.
