Boston vs NY Yankees MLB Betting Prediction

One of the signature rivalries in all of MLB is set for renewal this weekend, as the New York Yankees host the Boston Red Sox for a weekend series. The Red Sox (49-38) are in second place in the American League East, while the Yankees (44-44) are in fourth place in the division, 5 ½ games behind the Sox and 7 ½ games back of division-leading Baltimore. The Yankees finished the first half on a tear, taking three of four from the Cleveland Indians by a combined 33-19, as a Yankee offense that has been (to be generous) inconsistent woke up with a passion. The Red Sox also entered the break on a high note, taking five of six from the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays. Be sure to take a look at more MLB betting lines by clicking here.

Taking a Closer Look at the Boston vs NY Yankees MLB Betting Prediction

When: Friday, July 15, 2016, 7:05pm ET Where: Yankee Stadium, The Bronx TV: WPIX, NESN Radio: Boston / New York Live Stream: MLB.tv MLB Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Eduardo Rodriguez (1-3, 8.59 ERA) (BOS) vs Michael Pineda (3-8, 5.38 ERA) (NY)

Why should you bet on Boston?

Well, that 8.59 ERA next to Eduardo Rodriguez’s name might inspire you to call your bookie and put $100 down on the Pinstripes. Before you confirm the wager, though, consider that against the Yankees, Rodriguez has gone quite well: 3-1 and a 2.22 ERA in four career starts. Rodriguez has been ping-ponging back and forth between the big club and Triple-A Pawtucket, which is stressful on any player (and can be hard on the ERA). Jacoby Ellsbury (.455, 2 HR) and Alex Rodriguez (.455, 1 HR) have hit the lefty very well, but there are also five Yankees with career batting averages at or below .125 against him.

Why should you put your money on the Yankees?

That 3-8 record that Michael Pineda has posted is a little misleading. Some of it has to do with nonexistent run support from the Yankee offense early on. In June, he put together a solid string of six starts, with a 2.75 aggregate ERA. He did have a hiccup in his first July start, permitting five runs and five hits in six innings against the Chicago White Sox. However, it’s normal to have a bit of a letdown going into the All-Star break after a hard slog in the spring. Other than Jackie Bradley, Jr., no member of the Red Sox with more than three at-bats against Pineda has more than a .300 average against him, so he has pitched well against Boston in the past.

Expert Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Pineda to pick up where he left off in June and have a strong start to open the second half. I’m predicting a 4-2 New York win.
