Cardinals – Our Baseball Betting Choice Against Reds on Tuesday

Written by on August 3, 2015

The NL Central looked for a while as though it might be a 2-horse baseball betting race between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, but the Cubs are once again starting to make some noise. The Cincinnati Reds may be out of it, but that hasn’t stopped them from playing a role in how the division might finally end up. They will have a chance to upset the apple cart once again when they play host to the Cardinals on Tuesday night.

Cincinnati vs. St. Louis MLB Game Info

Date/Time: Tuesday, August 4th, 7:10 PM Venue: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, OH TV: FS-O Radio: WLW 700 Opening Line: St. Louis -135 The Reds (47-56) are 19 games back of the division leading Cardinals, and have made it clear with their trade deadline moves that they are already planning for next season. That doesn’t mean that they are going to go down without a fight, though, and they have already dealt some divisional blows in the past week or two. They started out by taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals on the road, and then followed that up by splitting a 4-game series with the Pirates. As nice as those results may be, it does little to change the fact that this season is now a total loss. Johnny Cueto has moved on to greener pastures, which means the remaining members of the pitching staff are going to have to try and pick up the slack. It will be Anthony DeScalafani (6-7, 3.75 ERA) who will get the ball for the Reds on Tuesday night. With a winning percentage of .638, the St. Louis Cardinals (67-38) have far and away the best record in baseball. While this is no guarantee that they will be World Champions by the time the season is over, it is tough to see who could beat them in a 7-game series. What makes their record all the more astonishing is the number of major injuries that they have had to contend with this season. There have been times when the outfield has looked like a patchwork quilt made up of journeymen players, all of whom have found a way to contribute. The Cards are coming into this one after recovering from a little bump in the road to take 3 of 4 from the Colorado Rockies. Veteran pitcher John Lackey (9-6, 2.78 ERA) will be looking to bounce back after a very tough 0-1 loss in his last start.

The Reds may have won the last series against the Cardinals, but let’s not forget that they went 1-5 against them in the first half. It should be a return to service as normal here, as I expect the Cardinals to come away with the win.
