Cincinnati Reds vs Kansas City Royals MLB Betting Preview

While not everyone is a fan of it, there can be no denying that interleague play delivers something a little different for the MLB betting fans. It presents an opportunity to see teams that would not otherwise appear on the schedule, whilst also giving fans of each conference a little opportunity to earn some bragging rights over the other. This week sees the Cincinnati Reds travel to Kansas City to take on the Royals for a pair of games, the second of which goes on Wednesday night.

Cincinnati Reds vs Kansas City Royals: MLB Betting Preview

Date/Time: Tuesday, May 19th, 8:10 PM Location: Ewing M. Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri TV: Fox Sports Radio: WLW 700 Runline: Royals -1½ The Royals (24-14) have a slender 1.5 game lead over the Detroit Lions atop the AL Central. Their +55 run differential is the best in the American League, and is second only to the Dodgers for the best in all of baseball. It is certainly starting to look as though what the Royals achieved last season is not a fluke, as this is a team that is solid in every facet of the game. They have not been as dominant of late, and are just 6-4 in their last 10 games, but those sorts of runs are to be expected in the course of a season. They are coming off a very nice 2-1 series win over the Yankees, and would like nothing more than to pad their impressive home record (13-6) with a pair of wins against NL opposition. Jeremy Guthrie (3-2, 5.44 ERA) is set to start on Wednesday night. Guthrie has looked good in his last 2 starts, winning both of them to get his win/loss record over .500.

Key Betting Trends

CINCINNATI REDS
The Cincinnati Reds (18-20) are basically just treading water at this point in the season, as they are having a tough time finding any sort of consistency. They have lost 6 of their last 9 games, and are on a lose 3, win 3, lose 3 roller coaster ride that pretty much epitomizes what their season has been like to this point. Pitching has been an issue for the Reds all season long, and you have to wonder how much longer they will stick with Jason Marquis, who was always going to be something of a risk seeing as how he didn’t throw a single pitch last season. The 2 games against the Royals are the first of 5 straight on the road, where the Reds are 2 games below .500. It will be Marquis (3-3, 6.63 ERA) who gets the start on Wednesday. His last two starts, both of which were losses, were nothing short of disastrous, as he gave up 11 earned runs.

What Should You Bet On?

The Royals have the power in their line-up to do some real damage, and those hitters must be relishing the prospect of facing a struggling Jason Marquis. This looks to me like a very comfortable win for the Royals.
