Baseball Betting Preview: Cleveland Indians vs Milwaukee Brewers

When you start the second half of the season with a double digit deficit between you and the team at the top of the division, there is the option to either pack it in or just try and chip away at the lead. That is what the Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers will have to do in the second half of the baseball betting season, and they will meet for a 2-game set in Milwaukee starting on Tuesday.

The Brewers (41-52) dug themselves a huge hole in the first half of the season, to the point where we had long ago written them off. The chances of them closing the 17.5 game lead in the division are slim to none, but you really do have to admire the way in which they have turned things around. They closed out the first half by going 10-5 in their last 15, and then opened up the second half of the season with an impressive sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The offense and defense now seem to be on the same page, as witnessed by the +11 run differential the Brewers posted in their series with the Pirates. While their season is still likely over, the second half outlook does not seem quite as bleak. Matt Garza (4-10, 5.55 ERA) will start for the Brewers on Tuesday as he tries to snap a 5-game winless streak. It was a very up and down first half for the Indians (44-47), as they struggled to find any level of consistency. They got the second hall off to a good start with a pair of consecutive wins over the Cincinnati Reds. Their upcoming schedule features a lot of games against teams with sub .500 records, which means that the Indians may have a shot at getting back into things. As it stands now, they are 11.5 games back of the Royals, and the way things have been going in KC, you have to believe that the Indians will actually be chasing a wild card spot rather than a division title. If they are to make a serious run, they are going to have to get better at home, where they are currently 7 games under .500. Danny Salazar (8-4, 3.74 ERA) will take to the hill for the Indians in hopes of picking up his second straight win. Matt Garza

The reality of the situation is that the Indians have the better shot at getting back into the playoff hunt, but they will need to take advantage of lesser teams in order to do so. I certainly think they have what it takes to get the win in this one.
